Fit Flop Shoes....Are they Worth It/Comfortable?

I'm interested in purchasing Fit Flops. For those of you who aren't familiar, these aren't regular flip flops, they are specific brand claiming to help tone, etc.

I'm NOT looking for these shoes to get my legs in shape as they claim but I live in flip flops and I want some that are well made with good support. I don't care about the cost.

My knees are also bothering me and that's another reason I want some decent shoes. I'm sure good sneakers are best but I'm always wearing regular flip flops when I'm running out the door.

Are the Fit Flops worth it and are they heavy? I do not like any flip flops that are heavy.
Just checking before I make the trip to Macy's. Thanks.

Hi Lisa-

I ordered a pair online about a year ago. Like you I wasn't buying them for the supposed toning aspect but I bought them because I had terrible foot pain if I wore anything other than sneakers and I wanted something more comfortable and convenient to slip on and off for the summer. I hated them. I found them to be uncomfortable. I have a somewhat wide foot so that may be why I had problems with them but they just did not seem to fit my foot correctly.

Since I ordered mine, I wasn't able to try on different sizes. It's possible that had I gone up a size it would have been better. If Macy's has them in stock for you to try on I guess it can't hurt to try them, but I was disappointed.

Good luck,
Karen

The thing I've heard from my orthopedic doctor about any flip flop type shoe is that, when you take a step, your toes tightened up in order to hold the shoe on... Which means you can never have correct gait nor good arch/foot support in flip flop shoes. If you're goal is a shoe with good support or something to stablize your hips/lower back, then you need to look at shoes that have a strap around the heel in order to keep your toes from cringing during each step.

Hi,
I'm not familiar with the brand name Flip Flop but I do live in flip flops but GOOD ones with GOOD support and a nice look....made by Chaco.

Good luck.
Lori

I decided to go ahead and spend the money and it was worth it. I took have foot trouble - although mine is heel pain. These are the only flip floops I can wear all day and not have to pay the price. Unfortunatly our new puppy decided he liked them also so now I have to get another pair. And I will spend the money to get them. I figure I would spend at least $50 on a new pair of tennis shoes and I wear these much more often. They are well worth the price and I highly recommend them.

I love mine so much, I went and got another pair. I also live in flip flops & wanted soemthing with support. I walked around Seaworld & San Antonio right after buying my first pair & I was the only one not complaining about my feet hurting. I didn't really care about the gimic side of it. They are not heavy at all. I highly recommend them.

Hi Lisa,

I bought them for the gimmicky part but honestly I'm not sure if my legs have "improved". I can tell you that there are days that my legs ache from walking in them which makes me think they really are working. However, I have been pleasantly surprised how comfortable they are on my feet. I actually went and bought another pair and live in them now!

I have some & Love them. they are not heavy & are very cushy. You just have to sort of breake them in. The strap across the top is tight at first but it get's normal. You could also try the Sketchers knock off. I have them too & like them as well.

I love my Fit Flops!! I bought two pair last summer. I did not buy them intending to get in shape. My calves were sore after a few days of wearing them. I bought them for the comfort. The are heavier than your old navy type flip flops, but I do not consider them to be heavy. I can't walk in bare feet. I wear mine all the time. My girlfriend bought the Sketchers equivalent, but she admits my mine are more comfortable. I paid $55.00 a pair. I think they are well worth it for as much as I wear them. Comfort is key and these give you just that.

Not sure about the fit flops, but I can strongly recommend MBT brand shoes. They are very expensive ($200) but worth every penny if you have joint problems. My mother is 65 and she could hardly walk due to hip pain and arthritis, she decided to try MBT's and now is able to keep up with her grandchildren, no problem. Her leg muscles were sore for awhile, but she is doing great now. The shoes have really changed her life. The MBT website may be able to give you a comparison to the fit flops. I also know Avon makes a bit cheeper version of the MBT tennis shoe. Good luck.

I have a pair of Crocs flip flops (NOT the clogs) that I bought online that I really like. I think they were about $30. I have problems with high arches, and most flip flops really kill my feet by the end of the day, but the Crocs have good support so I've had far fewer foot problems since wearing them. They're also very lightweight. If you decide the Fit Flops aren't for you, you might give the Crocs a try.

I bought a pair last summer and really love them- they are comfortable and stay on and seem to give me more support than regular flip flops. Finding the right size was the hardest - ended up getting a 7 when I usually wear an 8.5!
Good luck

have you tried Crocs flip flops? I love love love them.

I have a pair of Fit Flops that I bought almost 2 years ago from Bath and Body Works. I absolutely LOVE these shoes and wear them all the time. I wear flip flops all the time, but if I am on my feet all day, I can really feel it in my knees and back. When I wear the Fit Flops, that doesn't happen. They are the most comfortable pair of shoes I own. I don't think they are heavy, but it may take a couple times of wearing them to get used to them. I don't know if they really tone your legs, but they really are comfortable!

I received my Fit Flops last year as a gift and didn't really think much of them until I started wearing them. I love them and don't really wear anyother flip flops but my fit flops. It's hard to imagine wearing any others. I plan to buy other pairs in other colors. They are not heavy at all. They are extremely comfortable.

I have heard about them...have not used them, but heard they was great. My cousins has a pair of the tennie shoes and she said they work really good, and really help with her back, and other things, and she said after she wore the shoes for 1 day her legs was already hurting lol!

I've not ever heard of these - but keep us posted. When not at work I am also wearing flip-flops and look for some with a little support / cushion.

Mine are awesome on my feet and knees. They feel so good to walk in, and they are great for standing on my kitchen floor. I wear high heels all the time, and I tend to walk kinda hard. These shoes at the end of my day massage my feet. When I can't walk any further, I change into these shoes and keep on moving--lol. My knees bother me, too, and these shoes are made to absorb the shock of walking, especially on hard surfaces.

I wanted some but couldn't see myself spending $50 for a pair of glorified flip-flops. Then, a friend sent me a Victoria's Secret gift card, and I decided to use it for something that I wouldn't buy with my own money. That was over a year ago, and I am still in love with them.

I actually workout on the the cardio machines with them. I've worn them jogging too - although I've almost kicked them off the first couple of times. I think I might get a smaller size. They are comfy and have lasted me almost a year after wearing them for walks, jogs, workouts and recreation time. I don't really think they tone the legs - at least not that I can tell anymore than just working out in tennis shoes but they are comfortable and sturdy enough to replace tennis shoes for me.

I purchase some fit flops last year for all reasons-comfort, toning & exercise. I like the shoe, but I don't think the shoe likes me. I say that because I truly believe these shoes are for people that have an arch. If you're flat footed and have a wide foot, then these shoes may not serve ALL purposes. They are comfortable and I actually went walking(for exercise) in them and the walk was nice. They aren't heavy at all. I'm sure for the folks with archs, they are very well worth the money.
