i have a crazy question that just popped in my head can you paint a one year old's toes and fingernails? it would look so pretty but it is it safe and would she let me? has anyone ever done this lol thanks a bunch
I have a boy--but you could try doing it while she's asleep! That's how I used to trim finger and toenails.
I've done it without any problems and my son (yes I said son) loved it. The only issue will be if she sucks her fingers it will taste bad. :)
I would be worried about her biting the paint off. Maybe research a kid safe version, I'm sure someone has one.
I paint my 1 years olds toes all the time... I put her in the highchair so can't touch them and I use a product avon sells that you spray on then to make them dry fast so she doesn't get polish everywhere!!
I've painted my daughter's toes since she was six months old and she's 2 1/2 now. She loves it! I haven't ever painted her fingernails because she puts her hands in her mouth all the time.
Standard commercial nail polish and remover are NOT SAFE. They contain several highly toxic ingredients, poisonous to the liver and other organs. Both the fumes and the liquid chemical get into those little bodies by the lungs and directly through the nails, which are porous. Small children with developing bodies and brains are much more susceptible to toxins than adults.
There are specially formulated polishes for kids that are safer. They tend to peel off easily, but this would make it unnecessary to use a toxic remover.
I have an almost 3 year old and I have been painting her toe nails for a while now. I think I started when she was about 1 1/2 or 2. The only thing I suggest is just painting her toe nails and not her fingernails. Because they put their hands in their mouth and that's not good. So I just do her toe nails for now and maybe when she's older I will do her fingernails. Good luck though because it's hard to keep them still. Have fun!
I would not use commercial products on my baby because fingers and toes go into their mouths at times.
However, when my daughter was little, we got a book by Klutz (they have a special stand at most bookstores) which was on nail designs and included little bottles of polish that was safe for little kids. You did not have to use remover either, it just peeled off.
We still have that book, she is 15 now, and still loves to make designs on her nails.
It's safe once it dries. But they grow to fast as it is. Why rush it? she has many years a head for painted toes. Julie
It's cute, but we waited until recently with our daughter who turned 2 in March. Unless you have them asleep or have a super fast drying polish, you're bound to get it everywhere.
Somehow, even the most durable polishes seem to disappear from her nails in a day or two.
Then again, I don't polish my own nails and tend not to be interested in "girly" things, so my opinion may be different from most.
HAHA! I started painting my girls' toes at 2 months. So freaking cute...dr said it was fine...and they have some natural ones at natural food stores if that would make you feel better. do it while they are asleep in your arms. then you can grab a leg when they try to move and guide it from getting the polish everywhere.
I started my girl's at 2 months (And no for you Nazi Mommas she didn't suck on her toes! She doesn't have any oral fixations)
So yeah do it!!
I have brought my girls with me to get mani-pedis since they were babies. Since I was there to get my nails done anyway, I'd bring them along and they'd sit on my lap and have their nails painted too. The manicurists always loved doing this and both of my girls are pretty girly, so it was a fun thing to do and looked so cute on their little baby toes!
My daughter is 15 months and I have painted her toes twice. Once at 4 months when she was asleep on the floor and then once about a month ago. She is so rambunctios I can't ever get her to sit still long enough for me to do them so I end up just giving up haha. It is pretty cute and fun to do! It looks like she let you do them already though! :)
sorry i didnt see your post sooner but i wanted to add myself to the list to.i started painting my daughters toenails at couple days old.it was so cute we we waited till she was asleep and my mom and i would do it.she never put her feet in her mouth.but her fingernails we didnt do because of course so young she did put those in her mouth she is now turning 5 in july.but with my 9 month old daughter now we cant do it because she like to put toe and fingers in her mouth. so i guess ill just have to wait longer to do hers.but my oldest is now very girly to lol.
