I have gotten my nails done with a french manicure every two weeks for the last 16 years. This week I am going to change and have her put black polish on my nails. It is so popular right now, it seems like all the models in the fall fashion magazines are wearing black polish this year. If I do black on my nails what color polish should I put on my toenails? I typically paint them red but maybe I should do them a neutral, skin color. I tried to look in the magazines for guidance but most of the fall photos have the toes covered in boots.
Well, black is a neutral… shouldn’t it go with everything? I don’t think I’ll ever try black. I have squashed some fingers and toes in the past, and that black is enough for me forever! :^)

I honestly don’t like any other colors on my nails, it is the only one I have ever liked.
I even paint my daughters nails black, she doesn’t like any colors besides black and purple
We use black polish on our toes as well, might as well match, I personally thought everyone matched their fingers and toes, with exception of french manicures.
You can still do white tips with a black base, kind of a spin on a french manicure, it looks really cool
that’s funny. nail polish makes my fingers break out in blisters (fun!) but i just bought and applied black polish on my toes for the first time yesterday lol. i really like it, i think you should do whatever you want! just remember, if you’re doing your toes yourself BLACK IS HARD ugh! i didn’t expect it to be so much harder than lighter colors lol. but i like how it turned out. have fun!
The nails on my hands are always trashed - but I do my toes.
Week before last I did eggplant purple - really dark, almost black, but I found it too dark for summer so I changed out to hot pink.
I think this weekend I will do bright orange.
Personally, I like it when the colours on the hands and toes match.
My favorite black is OPI, Lincoln park after dark, it looks black but when you look closer, or get out in the sun, it is more of a raisin color with some shimmer. I would do the toes in neutral, I hate too dark color on my toes. My favorite thing right now is to do ombre on the toes, pick three shades of the same color, like light pink, med pink and dark pink, do the big toe darkest, next two toes in the med and the baby toes in the lightest, it looks really cool. Maybe you could do the big toe black, and then a dark and med purple on the other two toes?? Go crazy, theres always remover if you dont like it.
Go with a shatter top coat polish for your toes on top of the black! I love to have black nails, glitter the tips (like french) and do black toes with a silver crackle (shatter) polish on top - add some glitter polish and top coat and a fun combo for your nails.
The “rule” according to fashion experts is either the toes and fingers should be the same color or if one set of nails has a color the other should be a clear polish! But, I say, do whatever YOU like! BTW, black polish really stained my nails - you might not want to leave that color on for several weeks until you can determine if it stains your nails.
I’m a firm believer that the fingernails and toenails should match or one should be clear. When I can see that a woman’s fingernails and toenails look like they’re going to two different places, I can’t help but think that she’s all over the place.

Red sounds good to me! I like red and black together. It’s beautiful. I’ve seen so many Asian inspired fabrics in that color pattern and I just love it!
in my opinion you should match your toes and fingers in the same color or similiar shades.i was like you i pplished my otes pink or red and never changed but one day a girlfriend convinced me to get out of my comfort zone and now during the summer i love using bright colors or dark shades i never would have before and love showing off my pedicure
so I changed out to hot pink.
