We have never had this happen til this winter, but now has happened 2 times. We wonder if we have a cracked foundation? This stresses me out. so far we have just used a shop vac and pumped out of vent into the tub, takes ours and it is awful. Luckily we have caught it before it has gotten into our house. please help if anyone know s what to do.
I live in a small association of ranch townhomes and 2 of the units have had water in their floor vents this winter when snow would melt and rain came after. We had a structural engineer come out and he claimed that it is because the water table is so high this year. The water table is higher than it has been for several years. You might want to make sure that the vents are dried out good when the weather clears up so that they don't rust out and/or get mold. Other than that, I wouldn't worry about it. Just don't run the furnace when water is there..
I agree with the other poster...and you will have to worry about the rains today with them being heavy. Keep that shop vac handy and try to keep your furance to where it isnt to cold in your house but where you can put on maybe some sweatshirts and be comfortable because you dont want that water into your furance because it will ruin your furance. And yes it will cause mold. You will want to call someone who deals with duct cleaning once these heavy rains are over this week to do a good duct cleaning this week. Usually they arent that expensive and just tell them what happened and see which ones can help you prevent mold build up in the vent because you dont want that causing illness in the family. Good Luck I know what a mess that must be!
