Anyone Have a Good Christmas Morning Recipe? (Slowcooker or other ideas)

We're having Christmas morning this year and I'd love to find something delicious to make for breakfast...perferably something I can just throw in the oven or get out of the crockpot. I'd love to make oatmeal in the crockpot, but the recipes I've seen seem to burn quite easily. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks,
Tracy

I usually do 2 crockpots, one is filled with a hashbrown casserole and the other one with sticky buns.

The hashbrown casserole is a toss in...
hasbrowns
shredded cheese we use cheddar and mozzerella
can of condensed soup(your favorite flavor we use cheddar or cream of mushroom)
chopped up onions
Your preference or all 3 bacon, sausage, ham
very optional chopped up mushrooms/jalepeno peppers/green peppers/other meats/cream cheese
2-6 eggs depending on whether your filling a small crock or a huge one.

Mix all together, plug in at bedtime(okay this may be late if you are trying to get kids to go down. In AM you can sprinkle more cheese on top or just go as is.

Sticky buns/brush oil on the entire surface of crock before starting
bottom of crock
butter/brown sugar/vanilla/pecans/optional crushed pineapple put crock on high until melty
use either homemade cinnamon rolls(not me) or take your favorite uncooked frozen rolls, crescents from a can and flatten with rolling pin, spread butter and lots of cinnamon and sugar and roll and slice like you would if you were making cinnamon rolls and place in crockpot ontop of as my kids say, the goo. and put it on low overnight. Sticky and gooey and yum in the am.

We've frequently done a "strata" I think it's called... Basically chunked up crusty bread, eggs, milk, and sausage (and maybe cheese?) You put it all in a baking dish and bake. I'm sure you can find a recipe online for something like this.

Oatmeal is really easy to make - no need to have a slow cooker at all. Just throw some steel-cut oats into a pan. Use 2.5:1 ratio of water:oats. A dash of salt, bring to a boil and then cover and reduce the heat to the lowest setting. You can let it cook for 40-60 minutes or so. Even if the bottom gets a little crunchy, it's really good!! This is what I make for breakfast every day (I just put the leftovers in the fridge and microwave what I want each day)

This is a completely different direction: on New Year's Morning I always make a White Castle Quiche. Both my toddlers LOVE it and so do all the adults! You can Google for the exact recipe. But it's pretty easy: you use prepared pie crusts and make a traditional quiche filling (eggs and cheese with herbs/spices). You pour the quiche filling over 10 white castle hamburgers arranged on the pie crust and bake. Sounds a bit different, but even the guys love it!!

My husband always makes a breakfast casserole that he prepares the night before and we just throw it in the oven while we open presents Christmas morning. There should be a bunch of recipes online. They usually include eggs, cheese, bread and either sausage, bacon or ham.

We usually make a casserole. Put it together the night before and then just bake in the morning. That along with some Pilsbury cinnamon rolls goes over really well. Occasionally we'll also do a hashbrown casserole also. Jimmy Dean has a bunch of breakfast recipes. http://www.jimmydean.com/sitecontent/breakfast/

Have fun!

I don't have a recipe for it but a breakfast casserole is good. It has eggs, sausage, cheese etc and is easy to fix but I bet you could find a recipe. Have Fun!

Baked french toast is always a winner. You put everything together the night before and then bake it in the morning. I make this often and a lot of times I don't even put the syrup mixture on it. It's very easy to cut the recipe in half.

Baked French toast
INGREDIENTS
•1 (1 pound) loaf French bread, cut diagonally in 1 inch slices
•8 eggs
•2 cups milk
•1 1/2 cups half-and-half cream
•2 teaspoons vanilla extract
•1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
•3/4 cup butter
•1 1/3 cups brown sugar
•3 tablespoons light corn syrup

DIRECTIONS
1.Butter a 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange the slices of bread in the bottom. In a large bowl, beat together eggs, milk, cream, vanilla and cinnamon. Pour over bread slices, cover, and refrigerate overnight.
2.The next morning, preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). In a small saucepan, combine butter, brown sugar and corn syrup; heat until bubbling. Pour over bread and egg mixture.
3.Bake in preheated oven, uncovered, for 40 minutes.

I've made a breakfast casserole for years and my family just loves it! It's very easy and can be mixed together the night before and baked the next morning. I'm writing the basic recipe but it can be altered to whatever you have in the fridge! Try making a small one today so you can adjust to your taste. Im also including a Finnish Pancake recipe that is just as easy and so delicious. It's like eating a big slice of a crepe. I'll heat up whatever type of jelly @ Raspberry, strawberry etc., and have that on the side. Everyone will think you slaved over these 2 recipes and they are so easy. The Pancake will riaise and come down during cooking like a souffle so don't worry you did something wrong!

Breakfast casserole (for 9X13 pan)

9 eggs
2-3 cups milk - I use whole for this is won't be as watery
1 t salt
1 1/2 t dry mustard - made many of times without if I don't have any and it's fine
3-5 slices bread torn into pieces
1 1/2 cups cheese - I use whatever type I have on hand, but cheddar is what's called for
1 1/2 C ham, sausage, or bacon (cooked first)- taste great
with any - to save time I'll buy pre cooked bacon or the pre cut ham (my Mom will make her's with Spam for the memories)

Cover greased pan with the bread - I'll add more if it seems there's not enough. Mix everything else and pour over bread- refrigerate over night( not needed ) Bake for 1 hour or until middle is done - I'll normally have other things in the oven Christmas morning - if you're doing the sqame thing, it may be a little longer.

Finnish Pannukakku

6 eggs
1 1/2 C milk
1 1/2 C flour
2 t sugar
1 t salt
1/4 - 1/2 C butter or margarine
(It doesn't call for it but I add 1-2 t vanilla)

Whisk eggs, milk , flour sugar and salt. Let stand for 30 minutes. Pre heat oven to 450'

Put butter in 9X13 pan, place in oven until butter melts. Remove from oven, swirl butter around. Pour batter in pan. Bake 20-30 minutes or until edges have puffed up and are golden brown and center is set.

Enjoy and have wonderful memories this Christmas!

There are some really good baked egg, ham, potatoe, cheese dishes that can be make the night before and all you have to do is bake it in the morning. I've also had a variation of a french toast baked in a casserole dish and it is quite good as well. I would recommend looking online and searching for "baked egg" dishes or "baked french toast" dishes and you will find a variety of easy recipes. I've made one called "hashbrown pie". It's very easy. You mix frozen hashbrowns, eggs, cheese, ham and or bacon, onions, mushrooms in a pyrex pie dish and bake it. The good thing about this recipe is you could add or omit ingredients without hurting the recipe. For example, if you don't like onions you don't have to add them.

I have been making this for 12 years and people rave. I often don't make the sauce and use syrup. It is made the night before and baked in the morning

Good Morning!

I have used a very yummy recipe out my most favorite cookbook for the crock pot, "Fix it and Forget it". It's a ham, egg & cheese bake that is soooo easy, and yummy. I can forward if you'd like the exacts, or try and find the cookbook (I've even seen it at Wal Mart) as there are so many good recipes in that book.
I am not a very good cook, but this one is fool proof, and very good.

My teenage son asks for this at every holiday. It's quiche! I fry the bacon the night before and precook a purchased pie crust. Top the crust with the bacon and shredded swiss cheese and place in the fridge over night. THe next morning I just scramble the eggs (6 to 8) depending on the size of the crust and pop it in the oven. We usually make cinnamon rolls (from the can) to go along. With coffee and juice, we're good until dinner.

Forgot to put in time and temp: 375 for 30 to 40 minutes. Top should be golden brown, slip a butter knife in the center to make sure the eggs have set.

For the many years we have had my grandmother's sour cream coffee cake with eggnog and coffee on Christmas morning while we open gifts. Around 11 AM or so (depending on when everyone gets up) we have strata that has been made the night before and all you have to do is bake it. We make it with bread, milk and or cream, eggs, a little dijon mustard, onion, sausage and cheddar cheese - I'm sure you can find recipes on the internet (it is very much like what they call a breakfast casserole). You can change it around and use different cheeses or ham - whatever your family likes. I have also made a vegetarian form of strata with asparagus and tomatoes. No matter what - family and friends always rave about the strata and want the recipe. Good luck and have a wonderful Christmas!

Bakespace.com is an awesome website filled with thousands of recipes from stay-at-home moms, grandmas and regular every day people. No "fru-fru" stuff! Anyway, it's like myspace for cookers and cakers, they would have some awesome breakfast casseroles on there.

Buttermilk Coffee Cake

You could bake it ahead, cover it, and microwave it to warm it slightly in the morning. I made this the other morning and it went over wonderfully with my family AND my In-Laws! I used real buttermilk and pecans, instead of cashews. I have the cookbook, but the recipe in the link is the same.

Also, for an egg & veggie component, I served
Bacon Cheese Frittata
[http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Bacon-Cheese-Frittata/Detail.aspx]
I added about a 1/2 cup each of diced, seeded tomato and diced mushrooms. It will need to cook for slightly longer than it says on the recipe (closer to 45 minutes) but it was also well recieved. You can cut up all the ingredients the night before as well as cook and crumble the bacon and then it is a cinch to put together and pop in the oven.

Also, the allrecipes.com site is great for finding new recipes. I've been enjoying it a lot lately.

Good luck!

Delicious, comforting, easy. Dutch Baby
Makes 4 to 6 servings.

6 eggs, room temperature
1 cup milk, room temperature
1 cup sifted bread flour or all-purpose flour*
1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
5 tablespoons butter
Freshly squeezed lemon juice
Powdered or confectioners sugar
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. NOTE: It is very important that you preheat your oven. Place oven rack on the middle rack of your oven. Place a large, heavy ovenproof frying pan or a cast-iron skillet (I like to use my 10-inch cast-iron skillet), in the oven until hot and sizzling. While pan is heating, prepare your batter.

In a large bowl, beat the eggs until light and frothy; add milk, flour, vanilla extract, and cinnamon; beat for 5 minutes more. The batter will be thin, but very smooth and creamy.

Using a pot holder, remove the hot skillet from the oven; add the butter; tilting the pan to melt the butter and coat the skillet. Pour the prepared batter into the hot skillet, all at once, and immediately return the skillet to the oven.
Bake approximately 20 to 25 minutes or until puffed and golden brown (bake until the pancake puffs up around the edges - it may puff irregularly in the center
Top with your favorite topping and serve .dust the top with powdered sugar.
It's easier to make than explaining how to make it. YUM

The ideas you have gotten sound wonderful. Wanted to share my families favorite. They are little so can be in addition to something else. Sausage Cheese Balls

2 cups bisquick
2 cups shredded cheese
1 pound spicy pork sausage (the kind that comes in a roll)

Mix biquick and cheese together then add in sausage --- mix together with your hands until it forms a big ball of mixture in the middle. Form small balls and place in baking dish.

Bake at 350 for about 20 - 25 minutes.

I make these up the night before including putting them into the little balls in the baking pan. Then I cover with saran wrap and keep in the fridge. Pop them in the oven first thing in the morning and they are a wonderful little appetizer while I am putting our real breakfast together.

I had this great idea a couple of years ago, now we buy the Pillsbury frozen biscuits and the Pioneer Brand Pepper Gravy (dry gravy mix). It takes about 30 minutes and everyone love the biscuits and gravy (except my son-in-law who doesn't like gravy, so he eats his with jelly), the gravy is so easy, all you have to do is boil water!

I make an egg casserole and apple cinnamon pancakes. I don't use a recipe for my pancakes - my mom's recipe of a little bit of this and a little bit of that. :-) I dice up an apple, use self rising flour, couple shakes of cinnamon, some sugar and applesauce - in lieu of oil.

Here is my recipe for the egg casserole. I make it before we leave for the inlaws for Christmas Eve dinner. :-) My sister is vegetarian, so I use veggie sausage - no need to brown. I've also used the Morning Star veggie skillet w/sausage, onion and potato. Enjoy your holidays!
