I'm looking for a jogger stroller but I would really like to get the Phil and Ted stroller that is a tandem stroller not a side by side...it would be easier for me to manage. I'm training for a marathon in September and sometimes I need to take the boys with me. Trouble is the Phil and Ted's stroller is not marketed as a jogger stroller and I'm wondering if anyone has one and if it works well enough for running too? Is it durable and is it worth the expense?
thanks
Kara
Hello fellow canadian(edmonton AB here...) I've never heard of a phil and ted stroller, BUT JOOVY makes a fabulous ultralight stroller(as well as some jogging ones that I know nothing about) the ultralight caboose is a stand on/ sit down tandem and can be seen at their website- Joovy.com. The ultralight weighs only 21 lbs and folds up pretty close to a larger single model AND the company is amazing. I've heard of plenty of people using it as a jogging cause the ride is so smooth, its a breeze to push and it has ball bearing wheels. I wont go into the whole story here- but check out our blog and you can see what I'm talking about. The president of Joovy called me cause I had a hard time finding this stroller in UT and got us fixed up with one in TWO DAYS. read more... www.majorpaynes.wordpress.com
Good luck and WAY TO GO on training for a marathon!
I have had my Phil and Ted's for over a year now. I was debating over this stroller and the BOB Revolution stroller, but decided on this one for future children. I love how the stroller has different ways to fit two kids on it. (Check out the website if you don't know what I mean.) This stroller isn't for hardcore jogging, so I wouldn't recommend using it for excessive jogging. It's actually pretty durable, so it would be okay for occasional jogging. I have looked at other double strollers but I just can't get over the overall size of this one with the double kit on it. The Joovy Caboose and the Contours one just seem incredibly too long for me. I tested them out and I felt like I was pushing a train. The Phil and Ted's is really a lot more compact and pretty easy to maneuver. Just make sure you check the tires so you know when they need to be inflated, which isn't too big of a deal. My stroller has gone through a lot. It's had everything possible been spilled on it. The material is so resistant though, so it's easy to just wipe up. Their customer service is great. We needed to get a replacement part, because part of the footrest started ripping with my son jumping up and down on the stroller so much, and we received the part quickly.
Long story short: I'd definitely recommend this stroller if you are looking for a nice doubles stroller that isn't gigantic. I also would say that it would be durable enough for occasional jogging, but not for overly-excessive jogging just because the makers don't recommend you use it for that. It's pricey, but once you use it, you won't want to go back to a cheap stroller.
Good luck in finding the right stroller!
