Earlier in my pregnancy I had to take prednisone 25 mg for 3 days due to a bad case of bronchitis. My OB thinks that I am at risk for adrenal failure during delivery and has recommended I have three high doses of IV steroids during the delivery. I asked my perinatologist her opinion and she thought it was not necessary since I was not on the steroids long term. When I mentioned this to my OB and told him that I did not want the steroids during delivery he said I would have to sign a waiver since it went against what he thinks is in my best interest. Any advice on what to do? Anyone take a short dose of steroids during pregnancy?
Why not get tests done by an endocrinologist? That way you will have a much more accurate opinion and can go from there.
Other than that - the "then you have to sign a waiver" bullshit is standard scare tactic pressure/practice for when you disagree with the Dr.
Perhaps you should have your OB call your perinatologist so they can be on the same page.
I was constantly on steroids my whole pregnancy.
I have bad kidney problems and we were afraid she may come early due to the amount of pain I was in. So the doc gave me steroids to boost her growth.
Don't sign any waivers-if something goes wrong then your medical insurance may not pay since you went Against Medical Advice-"AMA". I like the suggestion of having the perinatologist and OB confer and come up with 1 agreed upon solution or seeing an endicronologist...you shouldn't be in the middle here! Good luck!
Your baby's brain and central nervous system are at risk if you do. I work with these kids and I would not chance it. My 2 cents...
