how about simple, light cotton shorts?
Try those snug but stretchy "bike" or dance shorts. They work great, and a girl can still climb a tree and not be taunted by "I see underwear" shouts from below. If you can't find them, you can get regular leggings and cut them off into shorts and hem them.
Those little, plain cotton shorts like from Target.
You can get a variety of stretchie shorts in different colors. The shorts look cute when they're color coordinated, and when your daughter is standing up, they probably won't be noticable. You can find these shorts at Walmart, Kohls, Target, and they're pretty inexpensive.
My daughter wears leggings or the stretchy close fitting shorts under her dresses and skirts. These work well for winter and summer and keep her undies covered.

I find that my son's boxer shorts do just the trick - we put them on over the undies & we tend to get the ones that are a little fitted & it works perfectly.
how about the little "boy short". kinda like tight boxers. kinda like what the women tennis players are all wearing these days.
I always put little colored bicycle shorts under my daughters dresses when she was younger - you can buy them snug and they work very well
I had the same issue when my daughter was young. I used to buy her bicycle shorts (or something similar) in all different colors. They weren't bulky and covered her underwear. She didn't like tights eitehr. Good luck.
My daughter used to wear (bike type) shorts under her dresses. Kind of a layered look. It worked and she could tumble and roll at will without showing anything off!
Good luck!

Comfort? - Start putting her in pants.
Bike shorts are seasonal and can be hard to find sometimes in addition to Gymboree and Target try Hanna Anderson and Lands' End also dance stores. And yes someday we moms need to warn our daughters about "upskirting" my oldest is 11 and I think I'll wait a few more years - it's just too weird.
Like the other ladies I will put bicycle type shorts when my daughter wears a dress. You could find them just about anywhere. Target, Walmart very inexpensive and they come in various colors so you could match them with her dress. Or if you are taking her to a place where she will be climbing and tumbling maybe it would be better to put her in pants. I usually just put dresses on my daughter when we go to church or a nice dinner party.
I honestly wouldn't worry about it. If she isn't going to wear tights, then see if she will wear a slip. My girls LOVE slips and undershirts. Not sure why, but they do.
How about little cotton bike shorts, if you cannot find in her size, you can get the stretch pant/capris at Wal Mart and cut/hem.
Leggings... They come in almost any color and look so cute with a dress. My daughter is a big fan of sitting with wide open legs and also loves to slide but only wants to wear dresses. I get those cute little leggings from Walmart, but they have them almost everywhere... they keep her fromm burning her legs on the slide and they also keep her diaper from being the only thing people see when she's sitting down. Good luck.
Leggings! They come in all colors and lots of cute patterns. Also their thickness varies. My daughter, who is six, never wears a dress or skirt without them. She is very concern of " I see London I see France.....".

You got lots of responses, hope you can stand one more. I buy simple cotton shorts with no pockets or other adornments in solid colors and then sort of color coordinate them with whatever dress my daughter is wearing. Kmart is a good place to look. If they're close-fitting they blend right in and can look like part of outfit. If it's colder weather, of course, leggings work great too. I do like to have something under the dresses because I want my daughter to feel free to climb and play and run and not start feeling self-conscious.
Also, to the moms who say "just put her in pants" I guess your daughters haven't started insisting on dresses yet! My daughter is rather tomboy-ish in lots of ways but she REALLY likes to wear dresses. I think that's fine, and I buy comfy cotton dresses for her that she can move in and that aren't fussy. No reason we can't raise little ladies who also like to play in the dirt!
hi. My daughters, too, are very active and not very "ladylike" yet! You can purchase very cheaply these shorts made of cotton/spandex which cover the legs snuggly to just above half way down the thigh. These are great because they come in many different patterns and colors, so you can match them to the dress your daughter wants to wear! You can get them at Target, WalMart, etc.. These remind me of leggings but much much shorter. I am sure that if your daughter's dresses go to at least mid thigh, they may not be seen at all until she decides to sit and play or tumble around in a tomboyish way! heheh
Hi There!
I had the same issue! You might have to wait a few more weeks for spring stuff to be in stores but I bought little knit shorts form Target the Circo brand they usually have lots of colors and are only $3 or $4. I bought them a little small so they were tighter and shorter. Walmart or somewhere like that might have them too. Good luck!

Steph
