Grand Daughter with Head aches

We have an MD on our team in my business and she put out a CD a while back about hormones. little girls are suffering from things like headaches, early periods, weight gain, fatigue b/c hormones being unbalanced. when we have too much estrogen, we have side effects. headaches being one of them.
estrogen is a growth hormone and it's in our food such as meats and dairy. so many people are estrogen dominant because of our diets and environment. most MD's just put them on the BC pill which then gives you more estrogen. if you're interested in teh CD, let me know!
i use a natural balancing cream and has helped many others. many MD's are recommending it.

The advice you've already recieved is wonderful.......but make sure you have the MRI. My neice was 9 when she was diagnosed with brain cancer that was noticed only because of her headaches. I'm not trying to scare you, I just want to make sure that you rule out everything -- including the allergies and other things that they'd mentioned.

I'm sure that you'll get it figured out soon and that it'll be alright. If it is something more significant, CHIPS will still help out -- if not, there are MANY hospitals around the country that can and do treat children with little/no insurance so don't let that deter you at all.

Research shows that one of the major causes of headaches is dehydration. Not enough water also causes constipation. I would try handing her a glass of water everytime you think of it. It is worth a try. Other causes could include allergies, but I'm sure her doctors will look into all of that.

Children feel stress more than we give them credit. I would say the headaches are related to worrying about Mom's job and money. My daughter was 10 when her Daddy was out of work for a few months. She loved having him home but started having anxiety attacks at night. She was worried without knowing it. Another culprit could be allergies or needing glasses. What type of headache is it? Top of the head throbbing, behind the eyes, under eyes, dry eyes? If she weighs over 90lbs she could be getting ready to start her period.

Hope she feels better.

When I was in 2nd grade, I started having problems with my vision, where everything in one or both eyes went all white. After seeing several drs. they determined it was migraines, but I was too young to feel the pain. They told me once I hit puberty, the pain would set in, which it did. After seeing a few different drs., we finally found a pedi neurologist that worked for us. I was on 2 daily medications to prevent migraines, and meds for when they hit. I had mri's, eeg's, and ekg's just to rule out anything else. We also played around with my diet to try to rule out any food aversions. Most people figure that migraines are for adults, but that's not true. I started having them in 2nd grade. I still occasionally get migraines, but not as often as I used to (once or twice a week when I was in high school). I think they were puberty related, because they were really bad in high school, then started becoming less frequent after that. I hope you can find a dr. you really like and that will find a good treatment for whatever is causing these headaches. I know first hand how difficult this is for your grand daughter, and I feel her pain.

Encopresis is a HUGE sign of a digestive problem. Having this for a period of time would often lead to headaches. The digestive system is the second brain and is where you manufacture 50% of your neurotransmitters---the chemicals that send the messages in your brain.

I would recommend a phone consultation with Andrea Stevens. She is a cutting edge nutritionist that has helped many families whose children have such issues. Her website is www.healthbasics.net---but it doesn't really give you very good information. I would highly recommend calling her and just laying out the situation and asking her opinion if she could be of help. Her number is 610-857-1399 . Her email is [email protected]

I cannot recommend her highly enough. Your granddaughter's issues can be resolved with nutrition---it's that simple.

Please feel free to tell Andrea that Donna Bateman referred you.

Hi, I am a mother of four and my son who is also 10 suffers with severe headaches. I have yet took him to the dr but I will be her this month. He has been having these headaches for about two years and I haven't really been putting the signs together till now when they got more frequent. Before showers would help but now he has to take alieve then go lay down for several hours to feel better. In my case his biological mother had migraines and required shots when she was a young teen. I am hoping this won't be the case for him but we will find out soon. I hope you find out what is causing it and I hope it is something small keep me intouch and let me know. I will post on here when I find something about my son

Of course you know headaches can be a symptom of something serious, so by all means, get the MRI ASAP. However, I am sure you are also aware that MOST headaches are caused by either stress or allergies of some kind. And since she has digestive issues also, it could easily be either one or a combination of both, very possibly food allergies. It is quite possible, perhaps even probable, that her problems can be solved with changes in her diet and by adding the right nutritional supplements.

I don't know what's going on, so I'm glad you're having her checked out. When my daughter was 12 she was having bad headaches. As it turned out she had menengitis. See how your granddaughter feels to place her chin to her chest. If it's terribly painful it might be that. The only test for it is a spinal tap. may GOD bless her with relief soon. GOD'S blessings to you and yours.

I started getting migrains at about 11  - I was treated by various neurologists with various pain relief methods, and MRI and CT scans showed nothing - they put me on antidepressants and said maybe it was all in my head (no pun intended).  Imitrex has been a godsend for me, but I couldn't take it pregnant.I finally found relief while I was pregnant with my 5 year old.  It was a chiropractor... and I was in the middle of a migraine the second time I went to see her.  She adjusted my neck and I thought I was going to vomit.  10 minutes later, the headache was gone.  I tried it again three days later, in the throws of another migraine - since I couldn't take my meds pregnant.  Again, she adjusted, again headache gone in just a few minutes.I see her twice a week now, for adjustments, and I haven't had a migraine in 3 months... no drugs, either.Steph

Could be hormones as she is 10 and may be entering into puberty. Just a thought. I had migraines as a child and on into my adult years adn was also seen by a chiropractor, but can't really remember if it helped. My parents have always told me as a toddler and in kindergarten, I would complain of headaches when my hair got to long. My mom would cut it and then they would stop for a while. But I don't know why. I was to young to remember. Could also be triggered by allergies or sinuses.
Good luck,
Laura

Hi Debbie,
Sometimes a Chiropractor can help with the headaches. I use Chiropractors for many aliments I have and have heard others say that they couldn't get rid of headaches until they saw a chiropractor. Good luck and I hope see gets better soon.

Thanks so much to all of you for the help I am still reading the responses and will let you know what each of the doctors say. I never would have dreamed there were so many special moms out there with so much helpful advise. At this time we are scheduled for an eye appointment, MRI and the G.I specialist at Cooks Childrens. I do think you are right that nutrition plays a vital role in a lot of this I will let you know how it all goes. God bless you all.

Hi Debbie, I am a Grandmother of 4 girls and come from a huge family with lots of girls. Headaches could be cause from several things. Early puberty was the cause of my 11 year old grand daughters and my daughters headaches. Once thier periods started the headaches stopped. On occassion the will have one a few days before but rarely. Also the stress the hold in is a cause. Both of them were a little over wieght and constantly getting teased and won't say anything about it, it is hard to talk about. Don't know if that is your grandaughters case but it was for mine. Thyroid or blood sugar could be a cause as well. But if she is having problems with her bowels, you should try stool softeners for a week or two and see if that helps. I know when they don't work right you feel bad all over. I pray it's nothing serious and that she gets better soon.

when my daughter was 5 she was getting headaches. it turned out she had a cavity and the root was exposed. she ended up needing a crown. headache gone.
i'm not saying that's what it is, but you never know what can cause a headache.
you might want to also consider sinus headache/allergies.
think outside the box.
good luck!

My daughter started having real bad headaches at the age of 5, and they would last for some time. Well, I took her to the doctor, she had MRI, eye exams, and all kinds of lab work done. It was determined that she suffered from Migraines. They put her on special meds after we went to a Neurologist. Well, I didn't like the meds because they were pain meds and made her sleepy. So, the doctor told me to try a hot caffinated soda. So, that is what she does still to this day sometimes. She is 21 now.

Hi Debbie,
You have received a lot of great responses concerning the headaches. I am actually responding concerning the encopresis. My 8 yo daughter is encopretic as well and it has been so difficult for her, and our whole family! My heart goes out to your granddaughter! Have you heard of Dr. Collins and his protocol for treating encopresis? His website is http://www.soilingsolutions.com/. This program was a miracle for our family! If you haven't heard of it, I highly recommend checking it out. If you or your daughter have any questions about it, please, please contact me. I know what it feels like to be dealing with this issue and feeling like you are alone! I would love to help in any way I can.

Susan

go to www.discoverlimu.com/jcarden. This is a superfood that has helped people with headaches as well as constipation. I have testimonials I could share with you if you email me. This is not a medicine, it is a vegetable from the ocean and tastes great.
Check it out.

Well I took my grand daughter to the eye doctor and she did need glasses. She was excited about that. I was glad to know she thought it was cool to ware them. We will see how the headaches go. The next step is her gastroenterologist and if the headaches don’t go away the neurologist. Thanks so much for all the advice .
