BPA free bottle recommendations

We used Avent for the first two months, until the controversy started. We then switched to Born Free bottles and we love them! Although pretty expensive, my daughter had no problem making the switch. They also have an insert to help reduce air and prevent gas, which is great for our gassy baby! Good luck!

I use the Dr Browns Glass bottles. They do have Dr Browns BPA free now. Also, Playtex drop ins are safe, which is probably the least expensive way to go. My daughter didn't like the Playtex otherwise I would have used them. You can go to www.safemama.com & it will tell you all the bottles, sippy cups, etc... that are BPA free.

I use the Evenflo tinted plastic bottles and love them. I did a lot of research about BPA-free bottles and ultimately decided to try these first as 1) they are BPA-free, 2) they are light-weight and safe (versus glass), and 3) if my daughter didn't like them for some reason I could change without having spent an arm and a leg. They are very reasonably priced and I have had no problems with gas, leaking bottles, etc. Some babies are very finicky about their bottles so rather than investing in a whole bunch of them right away I'd just buy a couple and see how they work.

Hi! I know that they make BPA free bottles for Dr. Brown's. My friend bought those. Yet, they are not easy to find (and they did not exist when I had my son at first). I have been using Born Free bottles with my son which are made without BPA. He does well with them. The system that the Born Free Bottles has seems to work really well too. I see a lot of people using these bottles. You can buy them online, at babies r us, whole foods, etc. We bought these bottles for the same reasons you are considering. Good luck with your search!

I just turned in my Avent bottles. If you're going to be pumping, all of the Medela bottles are BPA-free and are compatible with any Medela pump. The 3-pack storage and feeding system is comparable to Avent in pricing.

Hi Tina-

i LOVE green to grow bottles. you can get them online or at whole foods. My daughter likes the nipples, but if your baby doesn't like them the nuk nipples also work great- I liked the option of having different nipples to see what worked for her. The bottles are BPA and phalate free and the company is very green with its packaging. I've had a few questions about the bottles and when i call or email i get someone or a resonse right away- they are a good company. The bottles are priced pretty good and very cute looking too!

I also love these bpa free pacificers http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0014D47YC?ie=UTF8&tag=natureblog-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325.

best of luck- going "bpa free" is easier than it seems!

You are actually safe using your Avent bottles, because I read in the Parenting magazine last week that they are Bisphenol-a (BPA) Free. O, and I noticed you are expecting number 2 also and I am 31 weeks pregnant this Thurs.!! GOOD LUCK :)

I switched & love the Evenflo glass bottles. I wish I would have used them with my first child. They are also very cheap, 3 for $5! I do not like the travel disks that come with the bottles as they leak when you shake the formula but the you can buy separate Evenflo travel disks that are different & they works great, not leaks.

Playtex drop-ins do not have BPA in them!

born free

I use Sassy MAM bottles (5 oz and 9 oz sizes) for my twins. I love them because they're BPA Free and also have a seal designed into the system to prevent air bubbles. Only drawback is there are 6 parts to one bottle (cap, nipple, nipple ring, bottle, seal and base) - however, after washing and putting together 12+ bottles/day for 6 months, it doesn't bother me at all! They come in several colors if that's of interest to you and are available all over - got mine at Babies R Us.

I love the Born Free bottles. The only problem is that there are a lot of parts to clean. I just throw them in the basket in the dishwasher though. Never had a problem with leaks. I personally did not like the Avent bottles because they leaked. I think a lot of other companies are coming out with BPA-free bottles though so you might check the websites. Also, I have heard that Babies R Us will let you trade in all your old bottles to get a gift card to buy BPA-free bottles. You might call and make sure that is true though since I am not positive.

Avent has a new BPA free bottle, if you wanted to stay with Avent. There was a recent article in Parents Magazine on all the BPA free bottles.

Yes, Avent is coming out with a BPA-free bottle sometime this year (according to their website) . However, their Tempo line (similar to Playtex Drop-Ins)is BPA-Free. I use the Tempo refills and I like them a lot. I too was concerned about the whole BPA thing, but also really wanted to use Avent for many other reasons, so the Tempo was a nice solution. HTH ;)

I was already using Dr. Brown's wide mouth bottles when I switched to BPA free bottles. Because my twins were 4 months old and used to the Dr. Brown's nipples and needed the venting system, I ended up switching to the born free wide mouth ecause they are the only ones that fit. I was able to use the Dr. Brown's venting system and nipples with the born free bottles. I also tried MAM, Nuby, and Gerber Clearview but the MAM and Nuby bottles leaked, and the Gerber ones caused tons of gas for my babies (but so did the advent ones).

According to whay I've read, Gerber Clearview bottles are most like advent and also have interchangeable parts. (You can use the nipples from your advent bottles in the clearview ones.) Plus, they can be found at regular drugstores for about $2.00 each.

If you decide to use born free, they are ridiculously expensive, but I found them the cheapest at vitapal.com. They were around $7.50 a bottle, with no tax and free shipping.

I use the born free bottles and have no complaints. We were using Dr Browns and then had to switch over and transition was fine. Would recommend!
Good Luck!

I used Dr Browns with my first and with my second (10 wks old), I'm using Born Free, and I really like them.

Hi Tina,

I would recommend either the Born Free bottles or the Playtex nursers. The Born Free are BPA free. I use the playtex nursers and have really liked them. The plastic liner is BPA free and can be recycled, reducing the environmental impact of having to change the liner with each feeding. Hope that helps!

Skip the worry about plastic and use glass. I used them with my daughter and NEVER broke one. They are made from tempered glass and is not easy to break. You can by them at Baby's R Us. The next report we read will be about the "new plastics" and how they are bad for us as well.

We loved our Born Free bottles; the safe-plastic ones. It eliminated all gas issues as well as being a safe bottle.
