I was told by a friend to add Mylanta to desitin in order to get rid of a severe diaper rash quickly. My 14month old son was shaking and screaming in pain with a bleeding and solid red diaper rash and I pleaded for help with friends. It worked!I was told to add the mylanta to a large tube of desitin until slightly runny. It takes longer to put it on because you really have to rub it in or it runs off.Don't be afraid to frost it on heavily and that diaper rash will be controlled quickly.

Hi Angie,
Ohhh, just gotta love it when your little one gets a double whammy! The best thing you can do is give her bottom some air! The ointment should help when diapers are on, but otherwise, get her little bottom some air! It's not quite so difficult when the weather permits...luckily, we still have some decent weather (even just an hour in the morning will help!)
My little one had a double whammy back in January...doc said air and ointment and I was like...what? I'll have a mess! But, I just let him have more "air time" between changes and after baths before getting dressed.
Don't worry, you little one will get better soon...the first few days are the worst, but your past that by now, better days are ahead! Hope this helps and Best Wishes! ~Kristi
hi angi,
my daughter had diarrhoea when she was 8 months old. she had so bad diaper rash that i couldnt see her in pain. her dr. suggested me to use desitin in a good amount. i did that and especially used a lot of cream at night. you know what........within 2 days her rashes literally disappeared. i hope this helps.
all the best,
mona
I too had a similar problem and a ped derm recommender Aquaphor to apply to the diaper rash areas. It helped her considerably! He also recommended that I expose this are to air as much as possible. I would simply lay her diaper-less on a large towel for 15 minutes about four times a day. Ask you ped about this as well. Hang in there!!
I have a boy, so the diaper rash issue is a little different. When he had it really bad, I used the Aquafor ointment. It's really thick, but clear, and doesn't smell. Also, I used Burt's Bees diaper rash ointment, which is really just zinc oxide, but those were the only two that worked for me. I tried the Desitin, the Balmex, the A&D ointment, Super Duper Diaper Doo, and even just cornstarch baby powder. I know they are all basically the same thing, which makes it difficult. Aquafor Baby, should be with the baby stuff by the pharmacy, but it's also by the make-up aisle. It can be used for diaper rash, dry skin, chapped lips, etc. If you buy the tube not marked "baby", it's a couple of dollars cheaper. Go figure.
I have dealt with the severe diaper rashes with my grand daughter. There is a new product out (Triple X) I purchased it at Walgreen's. Other than that stand up to your Doctor and tell him or her. This cream is not working. Your Doctor is no better than you...We all still put our pants on the same way.
Good Luck and good day:o)
I am so sorry... uff.. how uncomfortable! I would be giving your baby acidophilus with her medicine. Make sure you get it from the refridgeration section at like Whole Foods.
Just mix a little in with her water... it is a powder form. You can also find this in yogurt.
Antibiodics kill all bacteria, even the good bacteria, needed for digestion, hence the diarrhea. It is good for the tummy and helps keep the good bacteria in the stomach when taking medicine.
For the diaper rash... I would get Triple Paste... you can find it at Walgreens. It is amazing! Just make sure you dry her bottom before applying. You'll see a difference overnight.
The most important thing to do is buy a diaper rash cream that has the highest percentage of Zinc Oxide that you can find. (look on the back label)
Creamy Desitin, Beaudreaux's Butt Paste and others work okay if your child doesn't already have a rash.
But if the rash is really red, bleeding or the baby cries and shakes when you try to clean them up, you need to make sure you use Regular Desitin or Walmart's brand (Equate) of Diaper rash cream. They are the only two I have found in our area of town that have 40% Zinc Oxide. (creates a skin barrier)
The Walmart brand, Equate, is by far the cheapest, at $1.47 a tube and is less than half what Desitin Original costs. ($3.47)
If the diaper rash persists, you can call your doctor and demand (nicely, but firmly) a prescription strength diaper rash cream. They can give you one, and should if this doesn't clear up soon.
Hope your baby feels better soon.
Hi.. my daughter 9 mmths old, had a horrible diaper rash. TRIPLE PASTE (expensive but works wonders) can be purchased at Walgreens. It was recommended by several pediatric dermatologists and really does the trick. Of course I also stuck her over the air vent after diaper changes to make sure she was nice and dry. Hope this helps!!!
I had wonderful results with Triple Paste or it may be called Triple Cream. I think it can be purchased over the counter at Osco.
Try soaking her in a tub with baking soda. Also, let her go without a diaper (on a towel or something easy to clean) for awhile to let air help heal the sores. As for the ear infections, make sure her ears are covered when outside in the wind and make sure she is sitting up when eating or drinking.
When my son gets a bad rash, I use A&D Ointment (apply a thick layer) and then cover that with baby powder. The baby powder seems to absorb the urine and stool, while the A&D protects the skin.
Also, Aveeno makes a "baby rash bathtub powder". Sorry, I don't know the actual name. It is a powder that you put in the tub and then let the baby soak in and it will help with the diaper rash.
Best of luck, I know that diaper rash is no fun for either of you!

For diaper rash I asked the doctor to give me something for my son's diaper rash because nothing was working it was an antibiotic for the rash You should ask the doctor if he can give you something like that
make chamomile tea strong, but use the loose kind not in the tea bags.and add to the bath water make sure that the bath water has a nice golden color, let Your daugher sit in the pretty warm water for a while untill the water is starting
to get coold, repet at least 2-3 times and it should go away.
about the cream I would not use instead, use the corn starch
which is like the baby powder but it does not have any perfumes and such added to it.It will work,it worked on my
2 daughters allways. And change the dipers very often to make sure that she does not stay wet for very long time.
P.S. for wiping her please soak a terry cloth in warm chamomile tea and wipe her wih that instead regular baby wipes.
My daughter's Ped. prescribed her NYSTATIN. It's amazing and works really fast. See if your doctor will prescribe that to her.
budreaux's butt paste or flanders diaper rash cream....they both are herbal (natural) and it clears up my little one's rashes (any kind, anywhere). Also, I have heard with little girls to rinse out the diaper wipes and just keep them moist with water (no cleansers or aloe or anything...just plain water). Hope that helps.
hi. i think just letting their bottoms air out is helpful with diaper rash. maybe wait to put the cream on for awhile.just a thought. good luck.
Hi Angi,
My Dr. told us to soak her bottom in baking soda & water for a few minutes after a bm. Use a dryer set on warm to dry her. Then put (in this order) fungal cream, 1% hydrocortison cream, then a thick layer of diaper cream (she said whatever but we used desitin.....if not really bad, we use vasaline....this is a barrier so that the other 2 creams can do their job). hope that helps.
Hello I saw your message posted on Mammasource and I have gone through the same thing with my son. He had chronic ear infections which Augmentin caused bad diarrrhea and rashes. Don't know if this will work for you, but we would try to very gently bathe him in aveeno bath and when we changed his diaper I would try to blot his bottom vs. wiping and I would use desitin creamy with Aquaphor ointment on top of the diaper cream and then put a little cornstarch powder on top of that to seal it in. I know that sounds like alot of hassle, but usually within a week it would get much better. Aquaphor is expensive, but very worth it!!
Just another peice of advice try to not feed your daughter alot of acidic foods and give her yogurt that helps as well.
Good luck and I hope she feels better soon:)
Stacy-Mommy of Brett who is 2
Try using the fungal creme first to help heal....THEN, cover the diaper area with A&D ointment. It's water proof and will give an extra layer of protection from the urine/BM.
The baths are great, and if you let her go around without a diaper for abit to get some fresh air. Clean her bottom and then maybe take her outside to the back yard. That way, if she has an accident, it won't be in the house. The fresh air will help to "dry" the diaper rash up.
