It will clear up. It will clear up. You don't need to worry about it.
Hi Delma,
Baby acne is caused by mommy hormones, but once those hormones clear out (usually by 3 or 4 months) It will start clearing up. Although it is painful to see your little sweetie with a red face the best thing is to let it run its course. Hang in there and don't worry too too much. :-)
I don't know if someone has mentioned it or not, but my 3 month old had it and I put lotion on her face and it cleared up pretty well. Just a suggestion to try! :) Good Luck!!

Hi there. My first son had baby acne really really bad. It doesn't hurt them, it just looks bad. There is really nothing you can do. In fact, the less you mess with it, the better. Just use water, no soap on her face and a sensitive skin lotion such as aquaphor or eucerin. Some people suggested buying arbonne. It is expensive and although it may feel good and be healthy for baby's skin, baby acne really just needs to run its course. And the less medication and creams you use, the better it is for the health of your sweet new baby girl. I know it makes you feel bad and it doesn't help to know that there is nothing you can do about it. As a natural instinct, you want to make EVERYTHING better especially for a newborn. It will clear up with time. . Creams and medication could be more of an irritant than anything on her sensitive skin. Good luck and congratulations!!!!
Delma,
With teens or children, some doctors will put them on antibiotics to try to clear the acne from the inside out. You baby is much, much too young for antibiotics so your best bet is to treat it topically. The acne in babies is usually caused by hormones either mom's or baby's.
The acne will clear with time as your doctor has said but in the meantime, I recommend using Arbonne baby products like some of the other posters have suggested. Sounds like your daughter's skin is on the sensetive side and Arbonne is pure, safe and pediatrician tested. It does not contain any harsh chemicals, mineral oil or dyes. The products will not dry out your baby's skin and will help keep her skin clean, clear and moisturized.
I have several clients rave about the results they get from the Arbonne baby products. (I have a tween so I can't relay my personal experience but I can tell you that I really wished I knew about Arbonne when she was a baby as she had some horrible rashes!) Anyway, ask your Arbonne rep about some free baby samples to see if this won't help your daughter. If you don't know any Arbonne reps, contact me I'm a Disctict Manager with Arbonne and I'll send you some free samples. Good luck and Congratulations on your baby girl!

Has your pediatrician considered eczema? My son was intially diagnosed with baby acne as a newborn but when it didn't clear up and actually began getting worse I took him to another doctor. That doctor diagnosed him with excema and prescribed a cream and recommend that I use an oatmeal baby wash on him to soothe the skin. In addition we found out a few short months later that he was allergic to the infant formula I had been supplimenting him with, which the second doctor said could have been what caused the eczema. Just some thoughts for you. Hope it all clears up.
You are definitely a first time mom. I remember being this way too. Don't worry at all, my daughter had baby acne and she also would get really bad chapped lips from all the drooling. It does go away. Just keep her face clean, though using soap can dry her skin out. I didn't do much for my daughters acne and sure enough it would clear up. It is usually much tougher on us moms then it is on the babies when they have these problems.
Delma,
could be she is experiencing a contact dermatitis allergy. If you breast feed, be careful you have completely rinsed away any lotion, soap perfume etc before her cheeks touch your skin, second her sheets, you said when she wakes up she has very red cheeks. Change your clothes soap to something with no perfume and rinse an extra time in plain water, use no softener or dryer sheets. If her skin is dry use only canola oil to moisturize it. It is pure and the body absorbs whatever is put on the skin.

my babys doc. said that it was my hormones leaving my babies body...so i wouldnt worry to much about it . It will clear up.
I agree with others that yous houldn't worry too much, I am sure it will clear up. I do have one suggestion. You may be stressing your baby's skin out if you are using soap and water too frequently. Soap, no matter how gentle dries the skin, so then the skin compensates by producing excess oil that causes pimples. Instead use a damp cloth and if you notice your baby's skin becoming too dry use a little baby lotion. Washing your baby during bath time should be enough, you shouldn't need to wash her face any more frequently.
Good luck!
I had the same problem with my oldest and it ended up being eczema caused by allergies to food I was eating. I took him to a homeopath who tested him and found he was allergic to eggs, chocolate, dairy, sugar, and wheat. It was a bit of a nightmare figuring out what I could eat, but a few days after I cut everything out of my diet, he cleared up and I got tons of compliments from strangers on his beautiful skin. Of course it made me cry because it was such a sacrifice to get that smooth complexion! Try to get your baby's allergies tested, go to an alternative doctor if you have to, but get someone to listen and help you!
try changing your laundry detergent
Baby lotion. When my middle child was an infant she got baby acne. It turned out that her skin was too dry and the oils couldn't get past that dry layer of skin. We used Johnson and Johnson baby lotion.
Baby acne is completely normal and almost out of your control. If the dr is not concerned.....
My son never had it at all, but my daughter did. There was nothing I did that made her have it. My doctor was never concerned. I used a small amount of aquaphor (pedi gave me a sample, so I know it's completely safe). I LOVE aquaphor. That really seemed to help.
It seemed like someone mentioned the hormones from breastfeeding might be the culprit, but that isn't true. It's the hormones from pregnancy and birth that are causing this. I like how some moms suggested putting breastmilk on her face. I never tried that, but it certainly wouldn't hurt, and could help.
But know that whatever you do she will grow out of it. It's a normal baby thing! Time is the best "medicine"!
If you breast feed then you can put breast milk on her face.It is a natural healing lotion.

Baby Aveeno works very well for my son. The Aquaphor works ok, but it is a bit more greasy than than the Aveeno so if your baby already has oily skin it might not wor as well.
You should look into natural skin care products for your baby. I used to sell Arbonne, a natural skin care line, now I just use them. They have an excellent baby line. Wash/Shampoo, lotion, oil, diaper rash & sunscreen. It is called ABC (Arbonne Baby Care). If you go to arbonne.com/index.asp then click on Locate a Consultant (top right) you can find a consultant in your area and hopefully one that will have a web site that you can order direct.
A friend of mine's baby had the same thing and she switched to using the ABC skin care line by Arbonne and it cleared up. I don't remember how long it took. There is no adatives in these products (ie purfumes, chemicals etc.) I use them for my babies and love them. The diaper cream you can rub into your hands and it isn't coated on top of the skin. Great products. I hope this helps.

Hi Delma,
I had the same problem with my second and now my third son. His doctor said it was baby acne. But it would just get worse and worse. It would break my heart to my 6 month old son go through this. I stopped using perfume and baby regular lotions on him. My hubby asked his aunts in Mexico if they knew of something that would help his little face. They told him to buy Neutro soap. You can find them in the hispanic stores. It worked on his face and helped so much that the redness went away and went away for good. I hope this helps and if not let me know. It could maybe be eczema also. Good luck and you can also try the Aveeno products too. Those work great also.

My 7 month old daughter had baby acne until about 9 weeks old. No worries, it is perfectly normal, as their facial pores are forming at this time. As long as it doesn't seem to bother her (itching, etc.) then I see no reason to worry. If it is still present around three or four months, address it with your pedi. Good luck!
I don't know if this would help or not, but my daughter had terrible baby acne (I thought). However, when I took her to the pediatrician, he told me it was a "salt rash." Apparently she would sweat during the day and her skin would react to the salt. He had me wipe her face with a wet rag(water...nothing else)about four or five times a day. It cleared up in a few days!!!
