when to install new windows

We are planning on getting new windows for our home (full replacement). If we placed an order today, installation would not be until January. The window guy says you can install all winter long. But, the temps have to be low enough for the caulke to dry properly. We have a 1/4 inch caulke line to fill - a bit more than average. Do you think it matters with houses constricting in winter and with the caulke issue when we have the windows installed? Should we hold off on the installation until spring? We just want to do the best thing for our house.

Thanks!

A friend of mione got new windows years ago, installed in February. She wished she had waited. The great deael she got wasn't so great because for just the hour or so the windows were out, it got extremely cold in the house. Plus they told her they could not caulk until the weather was warmer.

We had to caulk the windows in our house. Whoever put them in--a do-it-yourselfer we think--didn't caulk at all. All the caulk products say it should be minimum 40 degrees outside.

We jusy had 4 windows put in over the weekend, and we found out as they were installing a problem with another one, but they are waiting until the spring to install that one. I would wait.

Jenny,

I'm sure "the window guys" say it will be ok, I'd wait until Spring. I don't know about the caulk issue. I do know that when we had several windows replaced a couple of years ago that it does take awhile, and just due to keeping the house warm it would be worth waiting.

Have you thought of calling another window store to see what they recommend? I would get a second opinion.
