Steps to Take After a Dementia Diagnosis (NIH)

Receiving a dementia diagnosis for you or a loved one can be challenging. You may not know what to expect or what to do next. Use this checklist to get started:

  1. Learn about dementia so you can better understand your condition.
  2. See your doctor as recommended.
  3. Find local services and resources, such as support groups.
  4. Make legal, financial, and long-term plans.
  5. Make changes to your home, such as adding nonslip rugs, so tasks
    will be easier and safer.
  6. Join a clinical trial to help advance dementia research.
