My friend's 9 year old son is having sleep terror attacks the last few nights.
He does not remember when or why in the morning.
Anyone solve this by a home remedy or preventable cause?
Two of our boys had those night terrors, and one sleepwalked, and we never found anything to help. =(
But since it is just recent, maybe your friend can try changing something about the sleep environment...like a sound machine, music, or different lighting.
If it's happening at the same time each night they should go in and "resettle" him 15-30min before that timeframe. They shouldn't have to wake him, just kiss, recover, etc enough for him to roll over or move his arm across his face (like brushing away a hair). Hope that works for them!
Greetings Julie,
Since I have raised not only my own 5 children but several foster children our family has had to address this issue.
Believe me it is very real and horrific to the one going thru it. One child thought there were snakes in the bottom end of her bed and curled up as tight as possible and slept so lightly at night until nearly dawn-- then of course fell asleep at school. We sat down as a family and made sure that everyone knew to tease or make something rude becasue of it was not ever acceptable and there were consequences forit. This made the child going thru it feel better about themselves. We made sure that 1 hour before bedtime we turned off the TV. had relaxing music playing and we made sure that a light was on in the bedroom or as we might have 2-3 shareing a room we had the hall lights left on and the doors left open. Is was so beautiful to see this child feel secure and safe and able to let this fear go. It also has made my family aware that is is as much of a disability as my husband being an amputee. Good Luck and just stick with it and remind the child over and over again that they are safe and cared about more than anything. Parenthood has more twists and turns than any theme park ride and this is only one part of it. Be Good to yourself, Nana Glenda
