My 23 year old niece just scored her first job out of college finally making real money. I have encouraged her to immediately take advantage of her work place retirement 403b plan. She is absolutely clueless about retirement planning (which speaks volumes about our financial literacy for a majority of young college grads--- that's another issue). Academically she is brilliant but financially ---well, not so much. She needs a basic book, website, reference to guide her. I plan to investigate The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous and Broke by Suze Orman. Can anyone offer additional personal recommendations?
I don't have a different recommendation just wanted to say that I think the book you mentioned is a good way to go. I have read this and have often thought this is a great book for someone just out of college to read.
I have read the Suze Orman book because I had recieved it as a gift and it is no where as good as the Dave Ramsey Total Money MakeOver book that I read in the past. It gives you work sheets to help you set up a budget and shows you how to save and talks about all the different ways to save. After following his book, I was able to pay off college loans years ahead of schedule, pay off a care 2 years ahead of time and actually save enough money to buy my next car outright! His system really works and it is very simple to follow. I highly recommend it!
Hey Michelle,
Have you ever heard of Primerica? We focus on helping Middle income families to become protected and financially free. We help you get out of debt faster than any other company. And we help people save enough for retirement so they can maintain a comfortable lifestyle when they retire. We are definitely real. We have an overview as to how we do this tonight if your interested. It's at 7pm in Oakbrook. Or you can schedule a time to get a complimentary FNA (financial needs analysis) report done. And if you like what you see and what we do, then we can start to get you out of debt. Let me know if your interested.
