I have a 9 year old son who was diagnosed with TS last April, 2008. He has also been diagnosed with ADD. He is a very smart child. He seems to do well while in school with his ADD. He has never had behavioral problems in school. I seem to be the one having problems. I take care of 5 children plus my own kids during the summer. One of the 5 children is a toddler who seems to have her own behavioral problems. Anyways, I'm having a hard time trying to talk to my son when a behavioral problem starts. He just will not let me speak. He feels he needs to always speak. I'm also having a hard time with him knowing when to stop his "stupid behavior". This behavior seems to start out with a laugh from a peer but then when enough is enough he doesn't know when to quit. I have to seem to yell after how many times of telling him to stop the behavior. I guess my question is, do children with T.S. seem to have problems with behavior? Also, do TICS seem to get worse when the child gets excited about something that may be the littlest of things to us?
Hi, I noticed you hadn't had a reply. I don't have any first hand knowledge about your situation. But i have read a little bit about it.
I have always heard that tics get worse when the child is excited, nervous what have you and since kids tend to get excited over weird stuff I would think you should expect the littlest of things to set your son off. so even if it's just finding a pretty rock that he want to show you, i would imagine it would bring on some tics.
And i would think TS would also involve some behavior problems since it's such a social type of disorder. How do they deal with it at school that it isn't a problem??? It could just be because you are the momma and he feels most comfortable with you he doesn't try to hard to control himself when you are starting to correct a behavior.
Are there any on line communties for you that deal with this??? Like i said i don't have any experience with this, so maybe i'm all wrong. You sound like you are doing your best with your son. I hope you find some support.
