Seeking Doula recommendations

I am looking for recommendations for a doula. I will be delivering at ENH in Evanston and live in NW Chicago. I am seeking a doula who has had a child herself and has a fairly fast response time to inquires (ie within a week). Any suggestions are most welcome.

Hi Erica-I had my last baby thru a midwife in Chicago-she does deal with doulas in her office and there are two that have been very highly spoken of. I do not know if they go out to Evanston. You can call the office at 773-539-9870 and inquire. I used their acupuncturist and massage therapist and they were great!!

Hi Erica,
Our doula, Barb Belcore-Walkden was through Birthways- you can contact her there. She's had a child, and is pregnant with her next. She is also studying to be a midwife. We loved her and found her VERY supportive! She also lives in Evanston!

I will second the postings to contact birthways. They are AWESOME. I even had a doula who was single without children and she was (I think) even better because she was way way more available than any mother could be. She was amazing and young and energetic and really on the ball. She is also training to be a midwife so she is totally passionate about birth. Give them a call -- today. And do not think someone without children should be out of the question - you may be very pleasantly surprised. I felt the same way you do and boy, was I wrong. I had a great experience and wish I could have her at 10 more births!

Thank you everyone for your input. Birthways was very prompt and helpful. I met a doula this weekend that I felt connect with through Birthways and will give more input post-baby. :slight_smile:
