Revision of Circumcision

My son just had this done at 9 mo. Here is our story: I knew there was a problem early on and my ped. said it would most likely need to be redone at age 1. Then my husband and I moved to a different state. When my son was 6 mo. old my new ped., an older doctor, said it wasn't a problem then he proceeded to tear the skin away while my poor son screamed. He did not tell me that I needed to make sure the skin did not reattach. At my son's 9 mo. check up the skin had grown back and when the doctor tore it again. As he tore it he noticed that there were skin bridges that would have to be surgically removed. The doctor could tell I was upset, but said not to worry he wouldn't need to get surgery right away. He said I as long as it was done before 3 years of age it would be fine. This is when I took matters into my own hands. After being upset for a day and talking to my husband, who thought something should be done as soon as possible, I called a pediatric urologist. We were lucky to get in 5 days later for a consult. He said he usually fixes these things between 6 and 9 mo. We were even luckier to get a cancled surigical appointment a little over a week later. On the day he had the surgery there were 4 other boys having the same thing done.
I'm not sure why my son had the regrowth it might have been that not enough skin was removed or maybe it was because he is a big boy with a big fat pad. Whatever the case was with my son it no longer matters. If your child has this problem I reccommend finding and seeing a pediatric urologist. Good luck to other moms,

Thank you everyone for your candid answers...you definitely swayed our decision to have the revision performed for our son. Our pediatrician also said it was a "fat pad" several times (he's not our pediatrician anymore!). Our son (3 yo) suffers from persistent redness, excessive sensitivity, and some skin adhesion. My husband is beside himself at the incompetence of our pediatrician and the ineptitude of the hospital for botching the original circumcision. It's comforting to know there is a solution to this nightmare!

Thanks to all of you for your advice and comments. It is really great to know that you are not alone in what is happening with your child. You have helped to ease my fears and concerns. My little guy has his surgery at the end of August. It is now 3 weeks post op and he is doing great you would never know that he had surgery a few weeks ago. Thanks again!!!
