We have a small house that we rent in Hermosa Beach. Since our neighbors tented their house next door we've been seeing roaches around our house and I just saw one run away in our house. I have an infant and toddler and don't want to look to chemical solutions intially. I would really like to try things that are non-toxic for the kids before thinking about something like exterminators or fumigation (I might opt to move before heading in that direction)
Hi Maria,
I wish I could find an answer to this as well in the eco-corner, since we are plaqued with tiny ants in our kitchen for month now. I tried Lavender spary (you get lavender extracts in eco-pharmacies or Wholefoods), but it would only work if you spray this directly onto the bugs (we have a few roaches here and there too unfortunately - terrible!) and the effect does not last at all. Infact if you rely on lavender for too long without doing anything else the problem will get worse since they nist and multiply rapidly! So finally I bought a spray called 'Ecosmart' which is based on plants and vegetables. This does the trick a little better, but it is toxic to a certain extend and needs to be kept out ouf reach. The best result we achieved was indeed 'Raid-aid' against roaches and ants, but this is the full on toxic chemical and the most horrid product to use in a kitchen.....Another good alternative are the roach hotels. You can get them at any store and they kill the beasts. Try to keep them hidden from the kids (which is indeed possible). That seemed to me the least harmful product against roaches (no fumes). Good luck!
