Currently moved to Newark NJ looking for a decent high school for next year. My daughter will be starting 9th grade.
Tiffany:
Newark has district high schools. In addition to those, they also have 4 magnet plus vocational high schools. Depending on where you live, you should be able to find a magnet or vocational high school that she can attend. The 4 magnet high schools are the best (University High focuses on academics, Arts High focuses on arts, Science High focuses on science/math, and Technology focuses on tech/eng. I went to a vocational high school myself and did fine; I've heard they are still good....you'll find several, Newark Tech-Market St, Girls Vo-No 13th St, and I think there is another one. Hope this helps.
You might want to check out Science High, Univeristy Hight or Arts High. These are supposed to be good schools in Newark. Also check down at NJIT, last year they had vouchers to a private school, I don't remember what the school was, but you can check with them.
Welcome to the Newark Area,
Newark does has some pretty good H.S. How are your daughters academics. There is Science H.S., Arts H.S and there are others, here is the link to the public school system, there is also the private schools. http://www.nps.k12.nj.us/. I too am looking for a good high school in the Newark area for my daughter who will entering the 9th grade this September.
I'm in the educational system and I grew up in Newark for the majority of my life. If your daughter is smart and talented, she will not have a problem. There is one school called Arts High for the performing arts, it is good academically and for the arts, however in order to get in the school, your daughter must have a talent. You also have University High and Science High School. Please contact the school for testing all of these schools require some testing and they are probably making their decision for their freshman class now. Take care and good luck. Melba M.
Update better late then never! My daughter was on the waiting list for a Team Academy for 8th grade. January she got called for an 8th grade spot. Very happy she was ready to transfer ASAP! The school is very good and it also helps to get placed in one of the better high schools for next year. So much has happend with in the last 2 months my daughter has met alot of new friends and some in the area which is great, didnt take no time to adjust to the new school, new area and even riding the bus home from school. This helps me out alot - now I might be able to get to work on time the commute to Elizabeth was killing me… Thanks all for you help
