well we all have our share of health problems. I am a diabetic with kidney diease and have pulomary lung diease and artheris and suffer with depression. Is there anyone else there having simalar health issues? I am a caregiver of a special needs daughter who is twenty. She is good most of the time but is stubborn at times. I guess I just want other people to know life goes on no matter what. Keep your faith and trust in god and things all work out
Dear Becky--
I am glad that you found mamasource and reached out to others. Your life is certainly very full of trials and you would be out of touch with reality if you didn't get depressed. I was heartened that you were able to say that you are taking it one day at a time and doing the best you can--with all that is going on it is very difficult to do so and not fall apart. I was once very upset and overwhelmed about something and complaining to my father, and I cried, "I don't want to do this!" He responded calmly with, "Well, you have to," and proceeded to talk to me about what were my options.
Men can do that calmly and without judgement, I think. At any rate, when I feel overwhelmed I hear my Dad's calm voice whisper in my ear, "Well, you have to," and I take a deep breath, blow it out and try to focus on one thing at a time.
With all your health issues, I wonder if you are able to get out and go for a walk every day. One of the most important things that you can do as a diabetic is exercise, as it helps tremendously with the sugar regulation. I have worked with diabetics both as a physical therapist and as director of a fitness program, and I have seen the most amazing improvements in diabetic related problems with just a walking program. The hard part is getting started, and I suggest start very small--even if you try walking for 2 minutes, rest a minute and then walk back for 2 minutes. I suggested outside because that way you get out of your environment for just a bit and maybe witness something beautiful.
May you be blessed with some beautiful things in your path.
It takes a very special person to take care of a special needs child. I have a sister with CP and I see how much work and stress it is for my mom. But she is also very optimistic and even when she gets depressed, it's just for a short time.
Good luck to you and thank you for being so upbeat and reminding me that things in life happen to us for a reason and we are never given more than we can handle.
Hi Becky,I too suffer from health problems that keep me from working....I have fibro, crohns disease, arthritis and COPD....I also suffer from depression....There's more but I won't list everything here....I have 2 grown children that live in Maine, a dog and my husband....I love all kinds of music and listen to country a lot....I love living in the country too....Good luck with your daughter.....Keep up the good work....I know how hard it can be especially on those days when you don't even want to get out of bed....You can email me if you'd like...Denise S
I don't suffer from the same issues as yourself, but I have known people who have and they had a great response to a product called OPC-3. It is a super antioxidant that helps with many issues. One is inflammation, that could help your arthritis and lungs. It won't get rid of disease but it helps with many symptoms to make life more liveable. I am available if you need more information.

Good morining, I just joines because my friend signed me up. Your name popped up because like me you live in the farmingville area. I read your story and will pray for you. Life definitley keeps moving. During life we can have the most insane problems and then they just willow out. They come and they go. I try not to stress even though it's so hard sometimes. I had a stressful morning and I guess it was meant for me to see your story and now I see I should shut up and move on because there are others who are being tried and have more to worry about than I right now. I hope you will be able to smile alot today and I pray for you to have an easier day today.
Hello Becky!
My heart goes out to you as well as others in your situation, including the ones who have replied to your post! I do not have any of the health issues you mentioned and cannot imagine the struggle day to day that you face, however, I can say that God has certainly blessed your daughter with the right mom!!! You obviously love her and have done your very best for her! What an honor to able to be chosen by God for such a task!
I am a sahm mom of 3 young boys and homeschool them. I also have a home business helping others with many health issues including many you have mentioned. If you would like to find out more, please feel free to contact me. I am not pushy at all. I just love what I do and love helping others! I have 2 friends with diabetes that have been greatly blessed and another with arthritis that has also seen much improvement. I myself suffered from migraines for 15 yrs. and have had those reduce from 6-8/mo. to one every 2-3 months! I am so very thankful for that! It has made a huge difference in my ability to be the mom I want to be.
I also totally agree with the post about taking a few moments a day for yourself and to try getting some exercise, even a little, each day! That will do wonders for both your physical and emotional health!
I pray that today you and your daughter have some fun and laughter and are blessed by each other!
May God continue to bless you and hold you in the palm of His loving hand.
I have my share of health issues also at the age of 53(just turned this month).I was blessed w/7 children, and now 7 grandchildren.None of my children were special-needs,but I've had my heartache as a result of them.
My second oldest,a son, committed suicide in Dec.1987,and my oldest,a daughter, was killed as a result of domestic violence only 5 months later. My youngest, also a daughter, has put me through the wringer w/drug and alcohol problems as a teen.Praise God she is clean now w/4 children of her own.
Life still throws it curve balls, but as you said,it still goes on one day at a time.
God is w/us always, through everything if we want him there. All we have to do is accept Him into our life after admitting our sins.He alone can get us through anything.
You and your daughter will be added to my prayer list.May God bless and keep you.
Dearest Becky~
I do not have some of the struggles you are speaking about. I have some different challenges, As many of us do. Becky you are right about what you said. Have faith! You must keep God close in your heart and believe that In ALL things God works for the good to those who love him and who have been called according to his purpose(romans 8:28)
And remember... we have all been called!
Any time you feel for a coffee to just "get out" give me a shout!
Blessings,
Diana
I am very sorry to hear about your health problems and the situation with your daughter. Take one day at the time and put your trust in god is all you can do. I will pray for you.
Hi, Becky. I too am diabetic. I am 27 years old and have been diabetic for 26 years. I have a 4 year old daughter who is the love of mhy life. I too stay at home because of many health problems. And yes, I too get depressed. There are more things that I eoul doften love to do with my daughter, but because I am a sinle mom I can't. I try to stay upbeat, but a lot of them time I get very upset, mostly with myself. I do not have kidney disease, but I do have minor kidney problems, catarcts behind both eyes, hearing loss in both ears and I recently had a very bad A1C (8.5). My liver function test was unacceptable too. I think stress helps keep my health all over the place and I everything I'm supposed to and try to keep myself calm, but sometimes that's just not enough. It's nice to see someone going through what I have to everyday. Helps me to feel better.

Dear Becky T:
Depression can be a horrific ordeal when you're going through the "down" times, but I have some suggestions that may help you in all:
Get the book through Amazon.com By author Eckhart Tolle called: A New Earth, Awakening to Your Life's Purpose, he is also the Author of the New York Times Bestseller "The Power of Now" At first it may seem boring or uninteresting but then it will really be an eyeopener.
About your arthrtis and joint disorder: I know you said you are diabetic, but I also know that diabetics like everything in life, want what you shouldn't have. Please avoid all types of sweets, you get more pain at night and when you wake up because of the sugar (any type of sugar), stick with a good balance diet and if you are on insulin, you will see that you'll be taking less insulin instead of more and feeling better. There is a great program on CNBC called D-Life and it's all about diabetics and lifestyle. Look it up at www.CNBC.com search it, you'll be glad you did. I have found that a great supplement called Nerve & Osteo Support by Country Life along with Extra Strengh Glucosamine Chondroitin Complex by Solgar works really well together. Be consistent with it like you would with your meds, and when you start taking it take half the amount of pain medication you would normally take. Try using an alternative approach, because chemically derived medications will in time affect your body in more ways than one try to do a raw vegetable fast for 2-3 days. Also there is another great book also on Amazon.com called Stretching By Bob Anderson. Stretches are fantastic because they give your body much more flexibility and range of motion, if your consistent with these things and do these 5 minute stretches 2-3 times a day, everyday you should notice a 35-50 percent difference in not only how you feel, but a drop in weight, insulin intake, and flexibility.
Reduce the salt, until you can deal with actually no salt at all in your food. Try onions, garlic, ginger, balsamic vinegar or lemon, olive oil, parsley, or cilantro and grated radishes as a dressing over practically everything, instead of salt and butter. The salt even if it is a small amount will bloat you and retain alot of water which will affect your arthritis and also increase your blood pressure.
And last but really first in your life. Always put God first, He is always there for us and with us to help us carry our cross daily, He gives us the grace, strength and courage we need. Phillipians Chapter 4 Verses 6,7. Jeremiah Chapter 33 verse 3.
I hope these suggestions will be of great help to you. Also, there is an informative website called NaturalNews.com
Last suggestion!!! Don't limit yourself because of your conditions, even if its' to walk around the block or take a walk around the neighborhood park by yourself either early in the a.m. or after dinner, make time for you mom!!!
Good Luck and may God Bless you mightily.
Rita C.
Country living is the best! However it can be somewhat isolating. If your daughter is high functioning and physically up to the challenge maybe some good old fashioned gardening could be something you can do together. To make it easier give her the herb garden part that is a more forgiving as far as form. It would give her a chance to see a result for a little hard work. In my area its almost time to start my annuals under the lights inside(See online helps to get started) . What a joy to see those sprouts after this long winter. Its such a lift!!! Seasonal depression is my biggest problem.
