I got weevils in rice I once bought from a store and it's been so challenging to get rid of them ever since. I threw that batch of rice and cleaned the box etc, but I see them in the new rice as well. They also started appearing on my kitchen counter top and it's so annoying. I would appreciate any tips on how to get rid of them.
The bugman sounds like a good resource; I'll keep that in mind too. One thing I do to help prevent bugs getting into things is put several bay leaves in the container. I do this with flour in particular- I empty the flour into a plastic (lock-n-lock) container and add the bay leaves... I've never had a problem.Hope this helps for the future.
Do you have a freezer? If so, try storing your rice, flour, pasta, etc. in that. If you get all those things that attract the weevils off of the shelves, and clean the shelves thoroughly, the weevils should go away.
I used to have this problem alot but finally have taken care of this. You have to clean all dry goods out. I also now put my rice in the freezer. MOst of my dry goods are in tupperware.
Hi Mini: First having lived overseas we learned how to deal with all pests that were in the grains.
1st change stores where you are buying these items. They are not in all sotes products. Put all flour, grains, beans ets in the freezer for 3 days. This will kill anything that is alive. I store all my things in Tupperware containers or heavy Rubbermaid, they are better than the less expensive ones you get. You may have to toss the container you have used, or strilized it with bleach. Then relaly run it through the dishwasher. Good Luck, NanaG
I had them all the time and now whenever I buy rice, flour or anything else that has startch in it I put in a bay leaf. I also have bayleaves sprinkled throughout my cupboard and no more weevils or pantry moths - and I did not even clean anything out - just put in bay leaves into anything new that I buy.
thanks everyone for the tips. I threw all infected rice and cleaned all my shelves and made sure I have everything in containers. I am hoping that should take care of it. Bay leaves is a good tip too, I will put the same in rice, flour etc…
