My 2 year old daughter was diagnosed today with her 5th ear infection in the last 6 months. Her pediatrician doesn't think she's quite yet to the point of needing tubes; however, the nurse practitioner in the same office(who has actually been more active and proactive in her care) thinks she is ready. The pediatrician says this could be the last infection, what if it is? I can't help but think what if it's not? What are we waiting around for? I'm all for avoiding unnecessary procedures, but I also don't want to compromise my daughter's health any more if we're in a predictable pattern / rut. We have previously consulted with an ENT (per the nurse practitioner's recommendation) and feel good about this doctor if and when we opt for tubes. I'm just looking for feedback on when is the right time? What do we have to gain from holding off? What do we have to gain from moving forward? Your feedback and insight are most appreciated.
