I decided to have that third at 41.
I pondered it for a very long time, but I knew I had to have her: every time I saw a mother with a bunch of kids, I felt that our family was incomplete.
No perspective on what she will think when I am 60 and she heads off to college. I do worry about being a really old grandma, but maybe I will be the super cool grandma that gives them baked goods and reads them fun books (rather than the one that plays hide and seek.)
I honestly do not think it really matters. I am so grateful to have our 5th wheel. She has been such a wonderful addition. My own mother is 80, while my kids are 12, 10 and 7. They require no assistance from me or my brother, both are in fine health, living in the house I grew up in, doing almost everything they have always done.
I think if you listen closely, you know what you really want.
I love my kids they’re both turned out okay but wish I would have had them about ten years later and picked out a better dad when I wasn’t so immature and dumb

I’m in my forties and I just had a baby. I wanted her for so long and didn’t think I would be able to have another child. I didn’t get married until mid thirties and had trouble getting pregnant with the first one also. Not everyone gets married in their twenties or early thirties. I am one of those people. I say do what you feel you want to do and don’t let typical societal conventions be the factor. My parents had me in their late thirties and they also had two more kids after me. My mom is still alive and in her 80’s. My dad passed away from cancer right after I got married. We wanted our kids for so long and we didn’t think we would have been able to have the second one. After dealing with years of infertility issues, I just feel truly blessed to have been able to have both my children. I am so thankful for them. Do what your heart tells you.
