Diabetic Toddler

My 3-year-old son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when he was just 18 months old. We have adjusted fairly well, but I sometimes feel like I would enjoy having other parents of diabetic toddlers to talk to. It's just a little bit different with a toddler (3 and under in my opinion) than other diabetic children. Other really great people have reached out to share their experiences with me and I appreciate it so much, but I have not been able to find parents of diabetic toddlers to talk to. And the hardest thing has been finding a babysitter who can care for him. My husband and I haven't been on a real date for over a year.

Are there any parents in the Utah Valley area who have or have had diabetic toddlers that would be willing to get together and help each other out with child care or other issues? I am also open to other advice from any mom about finding support in my area or anything else.

I am a mother of three boys, two of them are diabetic. My oldest was diagnosed at age 4, he is now nine. My youngest was diagnosed at 11 months, he just turned three a week ago. I know exactly what you are going through. Finding anybody who wants to learn how to take care of them is a real struggle. I am lucky that a sister and a sister-in-law aren't afraid of them. i live in Mapleton, so only a town away if you need any information, advice, or just someone to talk to. Sometimes talking to someone who deals with this day in and day out is your best source of information. And if you go to the same Dr. that we do, a couple of the on-call nurses are not much help. You can send me a private message to get an email address and I will be more than happy to help!
