colicky baby

ok without using medications my stepdaughters baby girl was the best baby up until now she is 2mothns old, and she seem to be getting fussyer and crys for no reason, we have checked her all over make sure nothing is wrong, and i belive she is just coliky, we tryed to wrap her up tight, swing, bouncer, holding her, ect. what else can we do. we do play with her alot and keep her stimulated but shes up all night crying. shes on formula enfimal but i dont belive it is that she does pass alot of gas at times i mean she sounds like an adult. and i dont think its over stimulating

Not sure if she is breast or bottle fed but we changed our daughters formula and she is fine now. She uses Enfamil gentlease for colicky/fussy babies.

Is it possible that she's being overstimulated?

Also, maybe it's gas? Have you tried mylicon drops for gas? It's sold over the counter. Our doc recommended it to us and it seemed to work well.

Lastly, is she breastfed or formula fed? She may be having a reaction to the formula or something that mom's been eating (if she's breastfed).

I'd call the doctor.

I agree that it's probably tummy distress. Does she have reflux? I would check with the pediatrician just to be sure. Try the Mylicon first and see how that works.A tummy massage sometimes helps.

infant massage works wonderful for infant/child colic and such message me if you want more info.

more questions... what is she being fed? what is the family history of allergies?

I believe that colic has a cause... the difficulty is finding the cause...

Hi Lisa,

In general colic starts around 2 weeks and goes till about 3 months. If the baby was fine up until 2 months old, I'd look into another cause. Could she have an ear infection? I think this would be something that should definitely be brought up to the doctor.

Good luck!

I would check into reflux. I know people dont like medicating babies, but I will tell you that Prevacid made a world of difference with my kids and saved my sons life I am sure. Just something worth looking into at least.

How about teething? Some babies can get their teeth this early. I always used Hylands Teething tablets for my kids after a relative recommended them to me. I didn't like the idea of giving tylenol. Hylands also carries Colic tablets. They're basically tiny little pills that dissolve instantly under the tongue or you can put them in a little formula to dissolve them. One of the common ingredients in both products is Chamomile in the tiniest amount. I swear by them they are magic in a bottle without having to medicate your baby. You can get them at any drugstore, walgreens jewel even Walmart. www.hylands.com

Our first daughter started teething at two months and first tooth poked through right at three months. She fussed non-stop. You couldn't please her with anything. Not saying that's what it is but if you can run your fingers along her gums and she starts to settle a little then it may be a good bet. Good luck!

My baby used to cry through the night and it was a challenge to cope with my colicky baby, but babies magic tea did a magic to soothe my baby.
