I have a degree, but only taught in a private preschool, then was a SAHM, now looking to return to the workforce. I would like to talk with anyone who can give me some advice on whether to pursue continuing Act 48 credits, if i'm only looking to sub, or work in preschool, or possibly as an aide or a TSS. I am in a very teacher saturated area of Pa and don't have the connections or desire to fight for a public elementary job.
If there is anyone in Pa, or anyone familiar with how the Dept of ed works etc, I would love to be able to talk this over. I just don't want to put in a ton of time or money if I won't end up getting a return for it.
thanks
I don't have any real advice for you, but just wanted to share that I'm in Erie PA too :) Also, my cousin is an aspiring teacher who is currently subbing right now...looking for a FT position. i can ask her about your question if you want!
In order to sub more than 90 days in PA schools, you need to have 180 ACT 48 credits. The credits need to be renewed every five years. I am assuming this is the same policy in PA preschools. As far as being a TSS, all you need are your clearances. Get in contact with Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit in Edinboro, if you decide to substitute. You can earn your credits through there. Call or email WQLN, because they offer ACT 48 credits, or at least they use too. Good Luck,
Shannon
