5 year old due to have surgery this week. Advice appreciated.

We think my 5 year old was bitten by a black fly earlier this year on the side towards the back of his neck, around March. Since then it has been a roller coaster as to whether that's what it really was or if it was something that began as a lymph node infection. They thought it was non-TB micro plasma at some point.

He was on 2 different antibiotics over 10 weeks hoping to make it go away but that didn't work. Warm compresses helped to make it smaller but again, it hasn't gone away. They did a sonogram and said that because it is inconclusive, they felt the best thing to do was to have it removed and biopsied.

So Wednesday he goes in and we have a few things to get done at once. They are removing the cyst from his neck, clipping his tongue, and removing a cyst that they think is extra skin from when he was circumsized from his penis. I hate doing it all at once but the doctors agree that it is better to get it all over and done with at one time.

I am just wondering what I can do to help allay his fears both before and after surgery when he wakes and sees the IV still in. :( Also, they said he can't move much for a few days...my son is VERY active so that will be quite the challenge.

I appreciate any advice.

How is he doing?
