3 car seats

We have a Chevrolet Impala and a third child on the way. I want to get a minivan or something with a third row of seats that will comfortably and safely fit 3 carseats. (We have a 3 year old, a one year old, and a newborn in April.) My husband wants to keep the impala and figure out a way to fit 3 seats in the backseat. After speaking with a police officer in Frisco, I am convinced that having 3 seats right next to each other is not ideal or the safest thing for my children. My husband, on the other hand, only sees dollar signs when I mention trying to get a new car. We can't seem to agree.

Does anyone have 3 carseats in their car right next to each other? Any thoughts, opinions? The officer at Frisco explained that carseats and cars are not tested for safety standards using more than one seat together. They are tested with one carseat in a seat by itself, so there's no research on the safety of 3 right next to each other. It just seems to me...and the police officer agreed, that in an accident, having them so close together would be dangerous, even though it's completely legal to have 3 seats strapped in together.

I'm frustrated and stressed. What to do???? Btw, this baby is a blessing, but was not planned, which is why we're having issues about our cars.
Thanks!!

first I would borrow an infant seat and see if al three can be buckled in.....and go from there......

I've never been told that it was "unsafe" to have 3 car seats side by side. I have 3 separate anchors in my SUV, as well as my husband's sedan and all 3 of my children have been side by side since the twins were born almost 3 years ago. Admittedly, it was not easy to find vehicles that were wide enough to accommodate 3 carseats but both of our vehicles do.
