When Do You Actually Refer to Age in Years?

So I'm at Target with my daughter today and I run into a friend. Her sister is in town along with her son and the three of them were looking at toys. My friend's nephew was darling. I asked her sister "how old is he?" Her response? "Forty two months." Really? Really???? Geez, he's three and a half. I understand that there may be medical or theraputic reasons to refer to a child's age in months, but for the sake of a simple conversation, was this really necessary? At what age do you refer to your child in years and not...

Amt of Kids at a B-day Party

I'm new to this board and am looking for some advice. My oldest son is turning 5 this weekend and we are throwing him his first friend party at Pump It Up. We invited some of his friends from preschool and a two kids of friends of mine that he has playdates with. In total we invited 19 kids. The rsvp date was two days ago and only 10 people have taken the time to rsvp! I've now e-mailed the rest and 3 more have said they are indeed coming. Is it going to be crazy to only have 10 people at a private Pump It Up party? Has anyone been...

Solid Food Advice

Hi, I am a mom to twin 6 month olds and we have just begun solid foods after being exclusively breastfed. My son is a champ and loves anything I give him, however I am having problems with my daughter. She cries and screams anytime I try to feed her solid foods, basically just refusing to eat; then when I pick her up she roots and roots to be nursed because she is hungry. The Dr. told me to make sure to feed her real food but it's just been a battle. Has this happened to anyone? Can you tell me how to get her to eat and not rely on...

His doctor said that he’s fine, but I still want to know from other moms toddler how there kids weight and height are. I fell that he’s a little smaller for his age. Am I worrying over nothing? I hope someone read this post and thanks for your comments in advance.

Partial (Language) Immersion Kindergarten

My daughter has the opportunity to attend a partial immersion kindergarten class for Mandarin (Chinese) through our school district. Can any of you with experience in language immersion for young children give me some pointers as to the pros and cons of this? I have been told the school may or may not having a parents' night meeting to address such questions. As a former high school English teacher who also took 14 hours of Spanish in college, I see the advantages of learning a foreign language even if you will never use it. I know it...

Teaching Toddlers to Repeat Words and Learn New Words

Hi, My son used to repeat words when he was 9 months old and we thought he will start speaking soon as he used to repeat some complex words during that time. But around 10th month he got sick for few weeks in a row and could not play or talk for few months as he was tired most of the time. And we got busy with some other work at home and office so we did not focus too much on his talking skills in his early toddler period. He is now 20 months old but he still does not repeat many words even though he repeats and recognizes common things...

Single Dad Needing Help with Abc's and Numbers.

So im on mamapedia, and i'm a dad. I really need help from some of yall. I just got custody of my 4 and a half year old daughter who had been secluded by her grandparents in Montana. She has had no interaction with an adult that is willing to teach her until now. I have tried A, B, C, and D for about 10 days now and she can only tell me what A, and C are. Is this normal? I have her grab any letter she wants and then try and tell me what that letter is, and she just cries. She can be in the happiest mood before until i try and teach her what...

Booster Seat for Feeding

Hi Moms - My daughter has started solids, and we've been feeding her while she is in her Bumbo. That's working for now, but I know soon I'll need a better solution. We live in a small condo so I was thinking about getting a booster to put on one of our dining chairs, instead of a high chair. I was looking at The First Years Newborn-to-Toddler Feeding Seat, but I know Safety 1st also makes a bunch. Any recommendations on there on either of these? Or any other ones? Thanks!

Is First Years or Evenflo Breast Pumps Any Good?

When my son and daughter were born premature, the WIC offices where I lived provided a motorized Medella pump supplied from a medical supply store. Obviously this was very good. I know that Medellas are sold in Target but I also seen other brands. Is there an "off" brand ie, Evenflo, First Years, etc. that is comparable but without the price??

I Can't Stand My Child!

My child is driving me crazy! Technically she hasn't hit the terrible twos yet but she may as well have. She gets into everything and she doesn't listen when I tell her no or don't. I've tried reasoning, I've tried the tough approach, time outs- nothing works! I literally have to walk away from her to keep my temper under control. I am so stressed out, lately I don't even want to be near her. When does this madness end?

Help with Teething

Hey moms, need a little help here. My 5 month old has started teething I believe. She drools, puts everything in her mouth, and for the past 3 days has had a temperature from 99.7 to 100.9. I give her Tylenol, but sometimes it does not help. How long does this last. She is not a fussy baby at all. She only cries if I don't get her her bottle quick enough and after her shots. Right now though she is crying all the time. Sometimes I can't put her down and the normal things that sooth her are not working. I guess my question is how do...

What About Tummy Sleeping?

My daughter is 3 months old, and thus far, she's been sleeping swaddled on her back during the night. She wakes herself up when she sleeps unswaddled, but up until about a week ago, as long as I swaddled her, she'd sleep for about 4 hours, wake to nurse, then sleep another 3. In the last week or two, however, she's been waking up about every 2 hours and fighting against the swaddling, but when I don't swaddle her, she wakes herself up! At her sitter's (which will change on Monday when she starts a new daycare due to other issues), the...

My 16 Month Old Won't Walk

My son refuses to walk! I believe he is scared to fall. When he realizes he isn't holding on to something/someone he slowly lowers himself down to the ground. He will hold my or my husband's hand to walk, runs around with a walker, can pull himself up, can crawl up/down stairs. We have tricked him into taking a few steps here and there but can't get him to make the jump. The pediatrician says he is strong, has good muscle tone & that we shouldn't worry, but....
