Help with a Skin Issue

My almost 5 y.o. daughter has had chapped lips since this summer and they are only getting worse. The skin around them is red and cracks regularly. I have gone rounds with my dr. about this and she has given me a prescription for hydrocortisone. That works but as soon as I stop it comes back within a day. I have a referal to a dermatologist, but I thik it has more to do w/allergies due to a family history. Any suggestions about what to use on her lips (we have tried Aquaphor, carmex, chap stick) or maybe some foods to cut out until I...

Can Prolonged Use of Hydrocortisone Cream Affect Growth of Child?

Hello moms. My 18 month old boy has chronic eczema since he was 6 months old and have been using a hydrocortisone cream prescribed by our pediatrician. We have been applying this cream, a 2.5% formulation cream since he was an infant with varying degrees of eczema relief. He has needed it on a daily basis and we have been applying it twice a day to his ankles, wrists and behind the knee--the areas that are affected. We also use Aquaphor and pretoleum jelly emollients to relieve his dry skin. We have not asked our pediatrician though...

Cracked Painful Skin Issues

My two year old has a patch of dry, cracked and painful skin right behind only one of her ears. There are little red bumps and its even crusty. This has been going on for almost two months. I dry carefully behind her ears after baths- so I know that its not from that. I have been moisturizing the area with vaseline- but by the time she wakes up in the morning, it is dry, cracked and crusty again. She complains that it is painful too! She used to wear earings- and I took them out- I thought they may be causing irritation- but its been...

Red/raw Skin Around Lips

My almost eight year old daughter has a very bad habit of licking around her lips during the winter months ( starting last winter). This causes a vicious cycle because it dries out the skin, making her lick it and then it's more red and becomes crusty. The fact that it's unsightly is bad enough but it's also a health concern as well. Last winter it allowed impetigo to occur because the broken skin became infected. Most things I have tried to put on her skin I am told "burn" and she won't use them. I have tried petroleum based products and...
