Adverse Reaction to Epi-pen Jr.

Hi moms, Last weekend, I fed my son whole wheat pasta, green peas, with homemade carbonara sauce (milk, egg, basil, parmesan cheese). All of these ingredients, he has had some way before, but never with carbonara sauce. Almost immediately, he began rubbing his eyes, getting the sauce all over his face and into his eyes, and he began swelling pretty intensely, but he was breathing fine. We went to urgent care, where they gave him benadryl orally, which he promptly vomited. Then, they gave him an epi-pen jr. shot. My son cried for a...

How Do I Know When His Lactose-intolerance Is Better/gone?

My son was/is lactose-intolerant. I understand a lot of babies have a hard time digesting cow's milk and as a nursing momma, I learned to give up dairy for the first 5 months of my son's life. We thought he had collic, until I eliminated dairy and found the protein from the dairy was eating up his poor intestines and causing painful gas. Anyway, I continue to nurse him (he's 8-months now) and I have introduced cheeses, ice cream, etc. back into my diet and he doesn't seem to react much. I have not tried drinking milk yet but would LOVE...

Epi-pen Jr. in an Airport (And Some Liquid Questions)

My 19 month old son has a food allergy and we must carry an epi-pen jr. around with us at all times. Is there any special consideration we have to take when traveling by plane? I can see security claiming that it is a weapon or something like that since there is a needle, but at the same time, it is a rescue medication that is required to be with my son at all times. Also, because my son's food allergy, he usually cannot eat food out. I will be packing him some of his favorites since we will be traveling for breakfast and lunch. Is...

Epi Pen ????

My daughter is allergic to peanuts and we just went and picked up her epi pen and I noticed that it exp in may 2007. That just doesn't seem to be a very long shelf life for something that you hopefully will not need to use often. Of course if this is the norm that is fine but I feel like maybe the pharmacy just gave me an old one that they had on the shelf and if that is the case I am going back up there. So if someone could check theirs and let me know I would sooo appreciate it!

Too Early for Peanut Butter?

My son is almost 18 months old, and I am really wanting to try peanut butter with him. Our doctor had said to wait until he is 3, but I think that is a little crazy. My son is a VERY picky eater, and is is difficult to get him to eat, period. I am hoping that peanut butter might be something he enjoys. Any thoughts?

11 Month Old Allergic to Dairy and Weaning from Breastfeeding

Hello, My 11 month old son has been exclusively breastfed (he takes breast milk from a bottle at day care). I would like to work on weaning him in the next couple of months, however, I don't know what to wean him onto. I know that babies normally go to whole cow's milk, but he seems to be allergic to dairy. He developed a contact skin rash on his face and constipation when I introduced yogurt at 7 months. A couple of weeks ago, I was short on breast milk so without thinking I sent him to day care with some milk-based formula that had...
