The Big Car Debate

Hi everybody! We are having a pretty big argument in my house, and I would love your input. When my daughter got her drivers license she drove my car some, and then my nephew sold me his car for $200 because he was getting a new one. The car was old and nothing fancy, but I figured since it was her first car and I was paying for it, it should be good enough to get her to and from school and she should appreciate having it. She didn't have a job at the time, but she had a pretty heavy class load at school so we agreed that if she kept her...

Wanting to Purchase a Pet

I have an almost 5 yr old and almost 3 yr old. Where we live they won't let us have a cat or dog so I am looking for a smaller animal that the kids are able to hold sometimes and that doesn't stink or get too wild! I was thinking a hamster or gerbil Can you guys give me some advice on this? I have heard so many good things about children learning to care for animals and that it helps also with self esteem that's why I would like one while they are still young and not wait until we can get a dog or cat. Thanks!

College Savings 101

As my girls get older, I can't help but worry about college expenses for 2 girls. What are your plans for college financing? How many kids do you have? Are you putting $ away monthly? Can I be so bold to ask how much? Taboo topic in person. Anyone seen the documentary, Ivory Tower? Excellent movie on the business on college admissions, student loans and the personal and financial cost of a 4 year degree.

How Much Would You Pay a Sitter For...?

Question; how much would you pay a sitter to watch your 2 very young children for 18 hours a week in the sitters house? I was talking to a lady about a babysitting job and she said my prices were too high! I was very upset. The families I babysit for all pay me by a scale; $10/hr 1 child...$12/hr for 2 children. I think that is reasonable seeing how I'm not a teen. Anyhow, I did research online with care.come and sittercity.com....the pay calculator on there say $14/hr for 2 children. Hmm...So frustrating. So what do you all pay your...

Paying for Wedding Expenses

My 36 year old son is marrying for the 3rd time. He is a single father and for the past 3 years he and his 2 children have lived with my husband and me. One of his children is a special needs child and we have had a huge responsibility taking care of her so he could work. My husband and I pay a lot of their living expenses every month and keep the children so he can work. He is engaged to a 27 year old and this is her first wedding. Because they are adults and have been engaged for 3 years and we have paid for 2 of his weddings already, we...
