Looking for Advice on Toy Train Set

We're considering investing in a toy train set for the kids and a lot of the reviews we've read favor the Melissa and Doug set. I've never seen it and I'm wondering how it compares to the Thomas and Brio sets (or others). Also, are the pieces interchangeable?

Lesson Plans for 2 Year Old

I am a stay at home mom and my son just turned 2. He is very bright and has started letter recognition and counting, and is hit or miss with his colors. We do lots of educational activities throughout the week, but I would like to sit down with him at home with some "lessons" in mind. Don't worry, I will not be forcing him to do anything that he is not capable of, like sitting for a full hour of "class" or anything like that. I would just like to expose him to things that they might be doing in a daycare/preschool setting. I want to...

Toy Ideas for Almost 2 Year Old Son

Hey Moms, Patrick is 21 months and he is an incredibly active little boy. He loves seeing how things work - working with zippers, snaps, opening and closing doors, overall doing things with his hands. Can you recommend some toys/manipulatives that he might enjoy. He has some Melissa and Doug toys and some others, but I'm sure that you have some great suggestions. Also, what do you recommend for the car? Thanks, P.

How Much Do Your Kids Play with Their Easel?

I've always liked the idea of an easel for kids, and I'm considering getting one for my sons' upcoming birthdays -- they will be 4 and 2. The problem is that my house is very small and there isn't much room to spare. I'm worried that my husband will freak out if I add another big toy to the space. ;-) So, I thought I'd get your opinions first. Do your kids play with their easel? Are they able to share it well and play with it at the same time? Does it keep them entertained, or does it does create a mess? If you like your easel,...

Best Toy Purchase for Your 3 to 5 Year Old

Hi there, I'm about to put in a big order on Amazon for several good quality toys that are hard for us to find where we're currently living overseas (and if we do find them they're usually double the price as in the US). Having said that, I'm interested in knowing of any really, really, really great purchases you made for your little one that have provided hours of fun playtime. I posted this before and got some great ideas...thank you...so I'm really just asking one last time before I place the order. I have Dulplo legos, Playmobil,...
