"Must Haves" for Labor and Delivery

I am trying to figure out what I absolutely need to pack to take with me to the hospital and wonder what one thing did you take with you that you just would not have made it through your labor and delivery without?

Is It Premature Labor or Not?

I've had constant back pain for about 8 hours now, I've slept all day and don't really know if I had contractions, my water hasn't broken, I'm not bleeding but I've had mild cramping but not regular enough to keep track of, I'm also feeling pressure like pain in my v**. I feel sick everytime I eat something and I'm a little pale and have dark circles under my eyes. Should I call my ob, go to the hospital or just keep laying down using heat pads to try and take the pain away? Sorry, I'm 34 weeks.

What Was Your Major or Career?

I am 3 classes from getting my associates degree in general studies. Then, I will have to declare a major when I apply to a university. I know what I don't want to do (I am horrible at anything math related), but have no clue what I do want to do. I will get career counseling and take a personality test (myers briggs) to help me narrow it down. But I wanted to know *real world* experiences in the job field and if it relates to your major at all to give me some ideas, because I am stumped. So, if you feel like sharing. What did you major...

Choosing a Hospital

I live in Salem, MA, and I'm looking into doctors/hospitals in anticipation of my first child. Obviously Boston has some of the best hospitals in the world. But is it too far to drive if I go into labor (30 mins, hour if traffic) at home? I work in the city, so it would be close during work hours. Also, which hospital is best? Thanks

Looking for Lactation Consultant

I just moved here from California and am looking for a great lactation consultant. I'm expecting my third child in April and struggled initially to breastfeed the first two, so I'd like to be prepared. The author of "Spilled Milk", a wonderful book about nursing, lives in St. Paul and mentioned a lactation consultant named Lynn. If anyone knows how to reach her, that would be great. But I would appreciate any suggestions!

Do I Need a Doula If I Have a Midwife?

I'm pregnant with my first child and due at the end of Octobor. I'm working with two great midwives through the Women's Health Alliance at Baylor in Dallas - Cecily Floyd and Jane Singer. My question is whether or not I need a doula along with a midwife. I was told they'll (one of the midwives) be there the entire labor and delivery, and my husband will be helping to coach me as well, so would a doula just make for too many people in the room? I've heard great things about the help they can offer but just wondering if it's worth the...

Epidural or No Epidural?

Hello mamas, I'm now pregnant with my second daughter and due in less than a week. With my first, I gave birth the old fashion way, with no pain-killers. My labor involved 3.5 hours of pushing while I waited for my doctor to show up with the forcepts (I didn't realize that at the time and I have since changed doctors because of it) which left me in very bad condition and took months to recover from. I can't possibly have that bad of an experience this time around but I'm wondering...if I get the epidural, will I just wait till the baby...

Labor & Such

So I've been talking to a lot of moms lately and I seem to be seeing a trend. So I figured I'd see what you ladies had to say. How many of you ladies went into labor at night instead of the middle of the day? Obviously scheduled c-sections and such don't really count for this question. Not that there is anything wrong with them. I'm just curious if it is really more common to go into labor at night as opposed to the middle of the day.
