Ideas for Entertaining Toddler in a Hospital

I am taking my 17 mo. daughter in for surgery in a couple of weeks to get a neck cyst removed. They will put her under general anesthesia and will need to stay at the hospital for 1-2 nights. Has anyone had any experience with an overnight hospital stay with such a young toddler? Any ideas about how to entertain them for 2 whole days in a hospital?

Looking for More Quality Items for Fun Time

My baby isn't here yet, but I'm so excited i'm already getting prepared! Can anyone suggest videos, books, etc. that are geared more towards teaching and/or instilling values and morals than just mere entertainment? I'm ordering sesame street, I remember loving those as a kid, and I've heard of a set of DVDs that teach moral lessons in their stories but I cannot remember the name. Its important to me to spend the time I have with my baby as productively as possible so I'd rather have her TV, reading, and me time be something she...

Can Your Child Swim?

I was wondering how people teach their kids to swim? We have a pool, so I am really determined to get my son swimming sooner than later. He's 4 1/2. He has gone to the YMCA for swim lessons... well, started in the mommy and me "play" class before he was 2, and has progressed into the preschool swim class for 2 or 3 sessions now. And I am so dissatisfied with how the classes are taught, but there is no other place in our area that offers lessons. So I have decided just to try to teach him myself. About a week or so ago, I started...

Funny Movies for a Sick Friend

Dear Moms, I have a very dear friend who is battling a very aggressive form of breast cancer. Every time I see her, I try to make her laugh as much as I can with jokes and stories. I would like to give her some funny videos, movies or books to get her mind off her terrible illness for a while. What are your favorite funny movies that you would recommend? Thanks so much!

In Door Play When Its Cold???

I am thinking a bit ahead to the colder winter weekends and have no idea what to do with my VERY active toddler for some of those days when going outside just is not an option. What does everyone else do with their kids when its just too cold or raining or whatever outside to let them get some of that energy out?!? I do work during the day... but have some days off (one day a week) and am really looking for weekend stuff. Thanks moms!

I Need Advice on the Attitude and Behavior of a 9Yr Old Girl!!!

My daughter is 9yrs old and recently she thinks she can talk to me however she wants. She has this attitude like she knows it all and she thinks she can do whatever she wants. She bugs 2yr old sister all the time! When her sister finally has had enough she hits her or pulls her hair. Then she will try to get her sister into trouble. If i try to punish her she for it she will throw or hit whatever she sees! As she does that she will say "Whatever, You had better put her in time out to". Then on other days she can be the best daughter or...

When to Potty Train?

I am at a stump here as to when is the right time to try potty training. My 18 month old daughter has a potty that we let her play with and she has shown interest in using. We have videos and books and show her how it is done, but I'm really worried that I may be starting too early. She has gone pee in the toilet and she was so excited and I thought that we were well on our way to having a miracle early potty trainer, but then she lost interest. Do I get her to pay more attention to the potty now or do I just let her be? Help me out. ...
