At Wits End with Diaper Rash

My son has had a bad diaper rash off and on for over a month to the point that his but gets all red and almost raw. At times you would think we were killing him to change his diaper. We are hoping we can get him potty trained but he shows no interest even though we tell him his bottom will stop hurting. He continues to tell us after the fact. He has also been constipated for at least a month and we have been giving him Miralax and trying to get the right dose down. We have not changed his eating habits at all, but noticed this started when...

Benefiber Instead of Miralax?

Hi, our son will be three in November and is taking Miralax for chronic constipation. Long story short, he is potty trained except for when his stool gets backed up and then comes out uncontrollably and extra soft due to the Miralax. It is so hard to figure out the right dosage for him - right now we do a half cap a day, and a full cap if he hasn't pooped in two days. Anyway, to say it stresses him out would be an understatement. His stool so unnaturally soft, it's pretty much diarrhea. So, despite the fact that he never has accidents...

Withholding Stool Even Though He Is on Miralax

I am wondering Why my child is still trying to withold stool even though he is on a high level of Miralax. He has about three tablespoons a day. The goal was to get him pooping so much that he did not have time to wothold. Even though he is on all of the lax he still does the dance. I am soooooooo frustrated and want to help him so much. He will be three next month. The funny thing is that I tried potty training last Nov. in which we stoped because he had H1N1. He was also getting one flu after another at school. During that time he...

Introducing Solids to Daughter, Digestion Is Tough

I have a 5 month old daughter just starting out on some solids. We prepare fresh fruits, veggies, oatmeal and rice. She also enjoys cherrios and graham crackers. Obviously her digestion has changed, but should she labor with bowel movements? I think this may be the reason she was up crying every two hours tonight. Anyone have the same experience and any suggestions? I will discuss with our family doctor next visit.

Need Advice on Constipation for 18 Month Old

My son has just turned 18 months and is on day 2 of not having a bowl movement. I've tried apple juice and got nothing. I've been trying to get him to eat more fruit such a pears, etc but that doesn't seem to be helping. He just recently got off the bottle so he just isn't drinking as much fluids and I keep his sippy cut out at all times for him to get. Any ideas of what else I might be able to do? Thanks for your help. I'm also wondering what is best to use for playing in the pool. We are going to Great Wolf Lodge and I'm not...

Need Help with Pediatrician Problems

I am having troubles finding a decent pediatrician for my kids. We started with Pediatric Assoc. of Springfield and really liked Dr. Zainey but the office staff was horrible. so we went to see Dr. Chitkara in Springfield. He actually refused my kids treatment. I am requesting legal advice as well as suggestions on pediatricians. Here is the situation with the Dr. Chitkara. He had asked us if Melanie had any problems and we are like yes she has really bad problems having bowell movements. Takes her like 45 mins sometimes longer maybe even...

Probiotics vs Miralax

I know I've posted on this issue before, but here it goes again! My 3 year old deals with chronic constipation. She is normally a good eater and loves fruits and vegetables. She also drinks water regularly through out the day, I'd say about 4 8oz glasses per day. Sometimes she goes up to 4 days with out having a bowel movement. When she goes that long she gets really sick. She won't eat or hardly drink anything, her belly gets round and hard and she's miserable. Her bowels push on her bladder and she loses the sensation that she needs to...

Miralax for Toddler

My son has been battling constipation as we've gotten full into potty training. I know this can be a normal thing but we've had a couple of bouts here lately that have been really tough. So his pediatrician finally convinced me to buy Miralax today. I have been really reluctant to give him anything "unnatural," preferring to use prunes and that kind of thing, but she explained that after an episode or 2 of constipation the end of the bowels can actually stretch out a little, making the next poop that forms bigger than normal, and it...

Anyone Use Miralax?

My almost-3-year-old had horrible constipation issues that were finally resolved w/ Miralax. It works wonders. My ped told me it is OK for him to stay on it awhile, but I wondered if anyone had any experience w/ long-term use? I'm concerned that if he becomes too reliant on it he will have a difficult time later on. Any advice?
