Advice on Neighborhoods near South Beach?

Hi there - We currently live in Manhattan and will be moving to Miami in December. My husband has taken a job in South Beach and I will be quitting my job to be a stay at home mom. We have an 8 month old son. We will be looking to rent at first and then potentially buy. My husband doesn't want a very long commute, so we'll need to find a place to stay in proximity to South Beach. Can you please suggest some areas where we should start looking? Ideally we'd like a family oriented neighboorhood where we can walk to shops and parks. ...

Just Diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes

Does anyone have any advice/suggestions about this diagnoses? I was so convinced that I would not have it since I went through the same thing with my first pregnancy and everything was fine. It sent me into a bit of a shock when I heard the news last night. I meet with the Nutrionist next week and an Endocrologist (sp?) the following week. I did hear that I should start eating better now and that might prevent the need for insulin when I visit with the Dr.??

Diet for Blood Pressure Update - Mediteranean & South Beach

I've been all over the internet searching. Overwhelming! The bottom line I've found is excercise, lose weight, and diet. Most important - cut sodium and trans fats. Majority of food should come from oily fish, whole grains, legumes, veggies, and fruits, with a smaller proportion of lean chicken. Low fat dairy, no sweets. 1 glass of red wine a day. It hit me, that's the Mediteranean Diet - South Beach Diet! After researching those, I like the fresh healthy approach they offer. I like that Greatsuccess with these diets? Any...

Need a Kick Start..............

I'm really wanting to lose some weight, and my doctor said he'd put me on Meridia to help me get started. Unfortunately, however, neither mine nor my husbands insurance will pay for the prescription, and I cannot afford to pay full price for it every month. I know that eating right and exercise is the key to weight loss...believe me, I've lost 75 lbs doing just that. For some reason, though, the weight just isn't coming off this time. I do have a hypothyroid and it has been checked (along with everything else), so I just don't know...

Taking Back My Health Since I've Become a Mom 9 Yrs Ago...

I need some advice: I'm only 44 but feel 60 and I want to start being healthy again. I have started riding my bike but I'm sensitive to the sun, I think, as I get migraines after riding and after gardening in the community gardens. These activities are my most favorite things to do, but then I'm shut down by these darn migraines....My prescriptions are very costly and I can only get so much per month. I have lost 5 #s in the last 2 months, but I feel I need to gain some control of the family diet, like the "white stuff" my kids harp for. I...
