Help with Urinary Infections

HI- my question is does anyone have any home remedy suggestions for UTI's? I don't get them very often but when I do, they are a killer. Antibiotics always seem to give me a yeast infection and I would like to try an alternative cure. Also with 3 kids, it seems like a hassle to get to the doctor as I doctor about 20 minutes away from home. Any suggestions would be very helpfu and appreciated.

Need Recommendation for Pediatric Dentists in or near Chantilly, VA

I'm looking for a dentist, one who specializes in children, for my 3 1/2 year old son. We live in Chantilly, so I was hoping there was one that's close by home. My son has never been to a dentist yet, so we are looking for one who's great with kids and has lots of patience. Any recommendations are welcomed.

Seeking Advice on Pullups/training Pants

Hi Moms! My daughter is almost three (in July) and has been daytime potty-trained for about three months. She's doing great!! She was even dry overnight for the last couple of months. She's in underpants all day with frequent trips to the potty, and I've been putting diapers on her overnight. She's recently started wetting overnight again, which I'm okay with - she's pretty little to be dry all night! Before we buy more diapers, I'm thinking of going the way of pull-ups. I've heard that Huggies have a tendancy to leak, so I'm...

Diapering Through the Night?

Hi everyone! My 8 month old is mostly sleeping through the night (yea!!!) but, a fair amount of the time, he wakes up with his clothes soaked in urine. poor guy!! I'm using Huggies disposable diapers, size 4. He weighs about 18 lbs, so the diapers are one step up already (the box says 22lbs) What else can I use to keep him dry through the night? Thanks!

How Do I Know When His Lactose-intolerance Is Better/gone?

My son was/is lactose-intolerant. I understand a lot of babies have a hard time digesting cow's milk and as a nursing momma, I learned to give up dairy for the first 5 months of my son's life. We thought he had collic, until I eliminated dairy and found the protein from the dairy was eating up his poor intestines and causing painful gas. Anyway, I continue to nurse him (he's 8-months now) and I have introduced cheeses, ice cream, etc. back into my diet and he doesn't seem to react much. I have not tried drinking milk yet but would LOVE...

Need Help with Daughter Being Picked on and Beat up by a Boy at School

My daughter is in the second grade and through out the year she has been picked on by a boy in her class. We had three times earlier in the year where she had come home with bruises and other injuries due to him hitting or kicking her. I had called the principal, and the superintendent and thought that we had the situation resolved. On monday she came home with a huge bruise and skin missing on her shin where he had kicked her. He told her to go ahead a tell because he wasn't going to get into trouble, then today when she didn't want to let...

Seeking Supermarkets in Manhattan!

Hi, Just moved to midtown Manhattan and cannot understand why there aren't really large supermarkets nearby--Like Safeway or Stop & Shop (or are they hidden?). Where do people shop for groceries? My neighbors eat out or shop from Food Emporium, which is pricey to me. I don't have a car, but would be taking bus/subway. Can anyone help? Thanks!

What to Do When "Rid" Isn't Getting Rid of the Lice??

Good morning moms! I need some help with head lice. My daughters have both had them for almost 2 weeks and RID doesn't seem to be killing them. I've gone through this before and know all of the other items that need to be done like washing bedding, toys, furniture, etc so that's not a problem. My oldest has the thickest hair alive, takes at least 3 hours to comb them out after treatment, and had just as many, if not more during the 2nd treatment. My youngest hasn't had many but they also haven't gone away. Just yesterday, I picked 7-8 nits ...

Need Advice on Prenatal Vitamins

I'm trying to find the best prenatal vitamin for me - and am having a very hard time. I've bought several - but haven't started taking any of them yet. The "TwinLab" prenatal seemed good but contains Polysorbate 80 in the "inactive ingrediants" and I have read very bad things about that. The Trade Joes prenatal looks good - but too hard to swallow. The New Chapter Organics Perfect Prenatal seems maybe good but they add all this extra herbal stuff that I don't know if I really want to take. Can anyone recommend a prenatal that doesn't go...

Natural Probiotic Suggestions

My daughter was just diagnosed with a yeast infection. She is 4 1/2 years old. We have battled with urinary tract health most of her life. If you have read my previous request, you would know of our freguent (10+ per day), constand dibbles, net time wetting, and now a yeast infection. I have been round and round with the doctors over this and it just comes down to her being more "sensitive" in that area...I am wondering if there are some good "kid friendly" probiotics that I can give her to boost her bacterial defenses. I feel so bad for...

20-Month Old Sick & Won't Drink Much

My 20-month old twins started their flu on Saturday night. As of last night, my son was still vomiting. I have been giving him Pedialyte...which he refuses to drink, water (which is what I prefer), ice chips (refuses those, too) and water with just a bit of apple juice. Up until now his diapers have still been wet and I haven't been too concerned. However, after he got up this morning, he just had a trace of moisture in his diaper and each time I hand him his cup to drink water with apple juice, he begins to cry and throws the cup. ...

Relief from Yeast Infection

Child Has Worms...

Okay, I am really ambarrassed to even talk about this because I feel it's somehoe my fault not to mention it's disgusting. My 9 year old daughter's butt was itchy about a month ago & without getting into details we found out she had worms. The doctor gave us medication for her and it seemed to have gone away. Unfortunately she started itching again down there and sure enough they are back. My question is has anyone else out there gone through this and what did you do to prevent this? I try to make sure she keeps her hands washed and...

COBRA Or Self-Insure

Hi! My husband, who is the sole income earner in the family, is currently in between jobs. We are feeling the pinch on our Blue Cross Insurance premiums and are debating if it makes sense to save the $1,700 premium per month, switch to catastrophic coverage and "self-insure" instead. We are in relatively good health but I am concerned that the medical needs of a 2-year-old is unpredictable. I keep worrying that his being born 5 weeks early may cause some developmental deficit. To put things in perspective, the only real cause for concern is...

Can't Kick the Congestion

My daughter had RSV back in January and then Feb 14 I brought her back in because her hacking persisted and temperature spiked back up again. She tested negative for RSV and they said she had an ear infection. She was on amoxycillan for 10 days. Her hacking/congestion still persist with runny noses. I am sucking her nose out every morning and a few times a day over the weekend. The Dr said the congestion could last up to 8 weeks when she got the RSV. It has been that long and is still very bad in my opinion to the point that I am...

Night Time Diaper for Sensative Skin

my 17 month old daughter has pretty sensitive skin. she has prescription lotion that we use at least twice daily and also use hydrocortisone when needed. anyway, she is fine during the day in kirkland brand diapers, no trouble. lately she has started needing a night time diaper due to the longer sleep time and excessive, well, pee. we have tried a couple brands (huggies, pampers) and both result in a rash around her waist. it goes away as long as we don't use the same diapers the next night. if we use them again, the rash gets worse. ...

1St Birthday Party, Small or Big?

I need some opinions since I'm divided between make a big party for my baby's 1st birthday or make just something small and simple. I do want something BIG with tons of friends and puppets and music, food and a HUGE cake ... but my husband wants something small, just close friends and a small cake for her to dig in. Some people say that is not a big deal since she wont remember it but I will and I really think is a big milestone for us as a parents too. I don't know what to do. Suggestions?
