Infant Food Confusion

Hopefully someone out there in cyberspace can clear some of this up for me. It seems like some of the information I've read in parenting books and magazines is contradictory to what is available out there in the stores for feeding infants. (1) The books tell you that strawberries are one of the "highly allergic" foods and that you shouldn't be giving them to kids under the age of 1. Right there on the shelf at the supermarket is a container of stage 2 food that has bananas and strawberries, with no warning on the label. Gerber...

GERD And Antibiotics

Hi everyone! My 6-year old son has reflux (GERD) and he's now on antibiotics for strep. The last time he was on antibiotics, his GERD issues seemed to get worse. This makes some sense to me, but that doesn't make it true! So I have two questions: First, are antibiotics harder on people with GERD...so that they have to be careful to replace the "good" bacteria in their stomachs afterwards? Second, what are your favorite kid-friendly ways to do "probiotics"? I know about active yogurt, but I don't really know about anything else. If you...

Bowel Movements...sorry, Not Trying to Be Yucky!

Hello fellow Mamasource moms! Sorry, not trying to be gross...but I need some input on this. My son only has bowel movements about 2 times a week, on a good week! Since he has been potty trained, he doesn't like to go "big potty" very much. He has to get to a point where he can't hold it before he goes. I have given him raisins, apple-prune juice, grapes on a consistent basis with no effect! Does anyone know of anything I can give him that will make him more regular? I know his tummy hurts from not being regular! Any input would...

My 3 Year Old Is Constipated

Hi there, I have a problem that I need help with. I have a 3 year old girl who has been potty trained, but is having trouble going potty for #2. She states that she holds it in because it hurts. I give her prune juice every morning and also she loves to eat dried prunes, but is doesn't seem to help her, she is constatnly afraid that it will hurt. I have explained to her that she needs to let it out, but no success yet. Does anybody have any suggestions? I would truly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

10 Month Old with Sensitive Gag Reflex and Vomiting When Coughing

My 10 month old has a very sensitive gag reflex and throws up very easily when he coughs. Ever since he was an infant, if he drank too fast and I didn't burp him often, he would throw-up, projectile vomit. I would burp him often to control the vomiting. Now that he's 10 mos old and eating solids, if he has a cold or upper respiratory infection, he cannot move the mucus in his throat, so he vomits sometimes when he coughs. Last night I slept in his room and he threw up in the night. I am afraid he will do it again and choke on his vomit...

4 Year Old Behavior

I am wondering if any of you have experienced some of these characteristics with your 4 year old (I have a boy). He can't stand tags in his clothing, socks are too tight, pants are too tight (even though they are not.....), no long sleeve shirts (can't stand them!). Behaviors he has are: tantrums....screaming, yelling, and hitting the bedroom door...etc... when we are transitioning him from one thing to the next...and he is not happy about the next event. We also are hearing from others that he is bugging other kids who are next to him...

4 Year Old Wants to Pee All the Time

Hi Moms, My 4 year old daughter started to behave weird in the last week. She tries to go pee very often. Sometimes she may go as often as 4 times in an hour, some other time she would forget about it and behave normal for about half a day, but then she would go back to the potty thing. She says that it does not hurt when she pees, she just wants to pee. I took her to a doctor, and the doctor did not find any infections. She said that "sometimes kids just do that". But I am still worried. Did any of you have similar experiences with your...

3 Year Old Behavior...

Hello there...I am looking for new tricks to have up my sleeve when dealing with my 3 year old daughter. As of late she has taken to shrieeking when put on a time out. I also have not been able to get her to say "I'm sorry for _____" once she's out of her time out. She flat out refuses and walks away or says she "can't". She also has taken to talking or raising her voice over mine to repeat herself when told "no" in getting something. This she picked up from me due to my using it when she started repeating herself so say "noooooo" over her....
