College Savings 101

As my girls get older, I can't help but worry about college expenses for 2 girls. What are your plans for college financing? How many kids do you have? Are you putting $ away monthly? Can I be so bold to ask how much? Taboo topic in person. Anyone seen the documentary, Ivory Tower? Excellent movie on the business on college admissions, student loans and the personal and financial cost of a 4 year degree.

$$$$ For College

Wondering if any mamas have been saving for college? Have a 13 year old and 8 year old and back in the younger days we pretty much lived paycheck to paycheck. Well before I realized it---I've got 5 years to try and gather some $$ for her college! Not much more for the 8 year old. Not expecting to be able to cover it all, but would like to get something going for them. I know they can get student loans but we won't be able to recieve goverment loan assistance if it goes by income(?) Any ideas?? TIA

My friend was very exited about the fact that they will let their daughter skip her first semester as freshman in college. Her father is a professor and their daughters being home schoolers have been taking advantage to travel when dad can teach abroad. Our plan was to have him stick around & get his basics done at a nearby community college & then transfer to a 4 year college for his last two years. I'm overwhelmed at where to start, what grants & scholarships are available, which ones aren't legit, etc. Are there any parents out there that have gone received grants & scholarships for their children? My husband & I really don't want to rely just on student loans. My...

Who Pays for College...?

Are we as parents obligated/responsible for paying for our kids college? In a perfect world we would all have started a college fund when they were babies and at college age it would be enough to put any of them through the school of their choice.... but I digress. Let's put anyone's financial stability aside for now. I don't think it is our obligation to pay for college, should we help if we can sure, will some loans be incurred, sure. But as far as a yes/no answer, I say no. What say you... My son DOES have scholarships already to...
