College Savings 101

As my girls get older, I can't help but worry about college expenses for 2 girls. What are your plans for college financing? How many kids do you have? Are you putting $ away monthly? Can I be so bold to ask how much? Taboo topic in person. Anyone seen the documentary, Ivory Tower? Excellent movie on the business on college admissions, student loans and the personal and financial cost of a 4 year degree.

We dropped off my 18 year old son yesterday at college and now my youngest son is very upset. Didn't anticipate such an emotional reaction but I understand everything he is feeling. I just don't know how to make this easier for him. Any suggestions appreciated.

Teenagers in College

I have a freshman in college who always has been a good student, 3.0 average. Now in college she does not seem to be progressing like we thought. She goes to school right here at home, we don't want her to work so she can devote her spare time to reading and studying. She did miserable her first semester. I don't see her studying and she seems to have other priorities. She's still a decent girl who doesn't do drugs and does what we ask her to as far as chores and errands, and at least her friends are all in college too. She just seems...

Empty Nest Syndrome

How do I deal with my 18 year old leaving home? I am so worried about her, Is she eating right? Is she safe at night? Is she happy? I guess I never thought she would leave home or it never dawned on me that she would eventually leave me. I mean I knew it would happen but I thought I had more time with her. I feel a little lost without her here. Sometimes I am happy since now I have more space, the bills have gone down (electric, etc)but I miss her so very much. There are times that I just cry like a baby because I miss her so much! How do I...

Guiding Kids in Their College Majors

Our (extended) family has been having many conversations about life post college particularly one's earning potential. My question is for those of you entered college or have children entering college. How big of an influence did your parents have on your college major and its long term earning potential? Or more particularly, how have you guided your teen in selecting a major? How big of an impact did it have? Do college bound kids really understand that a college degree does not necessarily mean a "living wage", let alone a big...
