4 Year Old Behavior

I am wondering if any of you have experienced some of these characteristics with your 4 year old (I have a boy). He can't stand tags in his clothing, socks are too tight, pants are too tight (even though they are not.....), no long sleeve shirts (can't stand them!). Behaviors he has are: tantrums....screaming, yelling, and hitting the bedroom door...etc... when we are transitioning him from one thing to the next...and he is not happy about the next event. We also are hearing from others that he is bugging other kids who are next to him...

Recommendations for Allergist

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good allergist around Dublin? When my son was a week old, we discovered he had a dairy and soy intollerances. I am breastfeeding, so I eliminated those from my diet. Now that I'm aware of the various symptoms of food allergies, I believe that he and I both have several food allergies. I want to find a good allergist that can help me identify what I have issues with in the hopes that I can eliminate those items (and help my son as well).

Allergy Medicine for an Almost 4 Year Old?

We are not a family that takes a lot of medicines, I can only remember a handful of times I have even given our son Motrin (I'm not a fan of tylenol.) We recently saw an Allergist at Children's for some testing, and she suggested he start taking a chewable Claritin everyday. That was almost a full month ago, and I have not bought any yet. After really observing him the last month I do agree that he needs something. I am just worried about side effects like being groggy, out of it, sleepy, or just not being himself. His allergist seemed...

My 4 Year Old Has Dust Allergy! Any Advice???

My 4 year old was just diagnosed with being allergic to dust, weeds, cats, and dogs. Thankfully, we have no pets and I can deal with the weeds pollinating from June-October, but the dust one is hard! Besides having to dust and vacuum all the time, does anyone have any other helpful tips? I know she will NOT give up her Webkinz or other stuffed animals, so I was going to wash those. Has anyone purchased an air filter, and if so, what's a good one? Any advice would be helpful. I'm a mom of 3, so thoroughly cleaning my house is already a...

Nut Allergic Child and Sports

Hi! I have a nut allergic son who has been having severe reactions. Recently, he had a reaction from touching my daughter's new basketball that was handed to her by an assistant at the school. I could only speculate that she may have had some nut product for breakfast and then touched the ball, which my son then touched. So, my question is how do you handle sports activities with a severely nut allergic child? If he plays any sport where he is touching equipment (ball, bat, mat, etc.) that other children are contacting and those other...

ADHD In 3 Year Old

We have been observing our 3 year old for the last year and 1/2 for signs of ADHD. Well her symptoms have escalated in the last month. She is very defiant, gets frustrated very easily, is very impulsive and tests us on everything. She is "hyper" and won't sit still, but that is not a problem :0) can't ask her to do something I'm not capable of. She also goes hysterical at times when you try to show her how to do something or tell her no. I have ADHD and my husband has ADD, we have learned to cope with it and lead normal lives without...

Having a Hard Time Trying to Teach My 4 Year Old!!!!

Hello wonderful moms! I need your help. My 4 year old is having a hard time focusing. Since I'm a SAHM and we don't really have the funds to send him to a preschool, I try to teach him myself a long with my 21 month old son. He is very smart BUT its like he dont apply hisself. My husband told him he wants a SMART kid not the COOL kid. My son then says to his father, "Well I want to be cool, not smart!" We can sit down and try to do his workbooks and worksheets and he wants to play, or he starts talking about something that has nothing to...

Allergic to Gluten

My allergy test from a blood sample finally came in . . . as suspected, I am allergic to gluten (had high level of antibodies). I read about the different levels of gluten allergy: sensitive, intolerant and celiac disease. I do not know where I stand on that gradient and am not scheduled to have more testing done. What I wonder about is to what level should I be careful about not eating gluten? For now, I plan on removing all sources of wheat, rye and barley from my diet, but what about oat? Also, should I really stop eating none...

My Daughter Had a Allergic Reaction to a Bee Sting.

My 6-year-old daughter was stung by a bee on Sunday. She broke out in hives all over her body and her' throat felt lumpy'. We were told by her doctor that she had a systemic reaction and that now she would need to carry an Epi-pen with her in case she gets stung again. The severity of the situation has really started to sink in. I'm just wondering if there are other mothers out there dealing with kids with bee allergies. It seems like such a burden to need to carry an Epi-pen everywhere your child goes and have the in-charge adult or...

Help, My Son Won't Take His Medicine!

Ben, 2 1/2, is on antibiotics for a possible staph infection on his cheek (again). I'm having the hardest time getting him to take his medicine. He wont take it willingly, he will just spit it out. I have to have him take it, else he will end up in the hospital like last year for 5 days on IV antibiotics. I've tried bribing him with lots of different candy, but he still wont take it. I've tried mixing it with applejuice, but he still tastes it and wont drink it. I've tried doing it very slowly while he is sleeping, but he will just...
