Clingy

Knoxville, TN

Hello everyone, I have a 4and half month old. I work on the weekends only and my husband watches him while i am work. I am with him Monday - Friday though.. I miss him like crazy and he misses me to. On Mondays he is so so clingy i can barley put him down. I know this is because he missed me, but he won't nap or let me get anything done.I spend the morning with holding and playing with him. He is very happy and so am I .. Until i put him in the crib for a nap.. Is this a stage of maybe seperation anxiety type thing? I love the time with him and wouldn't want it anyother way.It makes me feel good to be missed so much by him. I just wonder if it is seperation anxiety?

Clogged Tear Ducts

Dallas, TX

Hi, I am a gradmother of a beautiful one month old baby boy. He has clogged tear ducts. The doctor says this is very common on newborn babies. I am concerned because his eyelids get stuck and are always crusty. His parents are very good at wiping his eyelids off with a cotton ball soaked in warm water as the doctor said, massaging, and putting ointment (prescribed by the doctor) on his eyes, but it does not get better. I am so worried because now his eyelids are sore. This has not happened to any of my children so I have no idea what to advice. Has this happened to any of your babies? What to do? Thanks so much! Desperate Abuela.

Coconut Sensitivity Update - More Details Eczema

Dallas, TX

Hi, My 8 month old is sensitive to products containing coconut. It makes her skin red and whelpy. I started reading labels and most natural products contain coconut. Even detergents have it in it. I am going to be getting Soap Nuts for our laundry. I just started doing research on it and would like any resources you all might have. We use mostly organics and seek natural personal care products when possible. Thanks, S.

Colic Baby

Oklahoma City, OK

I could need some help. I have a 4 week old son and he is crying 24/7. I'm so excausted. To the beginn i was breastfeeding him, but then my milk went away. I only got 1 oz of milk out in 24 hours. I thought, that's might why he is screeming all day. Then i gave him Enfamil Formula and he got really bad gas. So i changed his Formula to Nestle Good Start with DHA & ARA. Since them he doesn't have gas any more, but still screems even he eats every 1 to 2 hours about 4 oz. In the evening i tried to give him a bath, which he likes. After the bathing time he got a bottle. I tried warm water, but he screems when the bottle is warm. I never had a child like that. So i feed him now with cold formula. But nothing helps. This child doesn't wanna sleep. My husband and i are so excausted and frustrated. Does any one of you know something else i could try out? I would appriciate that so much.

Colic, Will It Ever Get Better?!!

New York, NJ

My son is just about 8 weeks old. My husband and I have been dealing with belly aches, gas and constipation since shortly after he was born. I only breast fed for about two week, then we did a little switching of the formula, now he's on Similac Alimentum, which helps with the constipation but he seems like he's colic. I'm stressed!! I feel like he will never learn to occupy himself or be on a schedule. Can I just have some reassurance that this will get better and that I will have a happy baby one day. What was your experience like?

Color Preference in 10-1/2 Month Old

St. Louis, MO

This may or may not be nothing, but my 10-1/2 month old really loves the color yellow and frequently crawls around with a yellow toy in his right hand. There can be five different colors of the same thing (the rock-and-stack rings, for example) and the yellow one almost always ends up in his right hand. He has no problem playing with other items but I find it interesting that he has such a strong preference. I'll ask his pediatrician at his checkup in 6 weeks, but I just thought I'd see if anyone out there has any insight. Should I be worried? Any toy he's really seemed to have an attachment to his whole life has been yellow. And I have no intention of pointing this out to him or making it an issue, it's just something I've noticed and I'm curious. Thanks for any input!

Concerns About 6 Month Old

Dallas, TX

One of the kids that I keep is a 6 month old little boy who is very "active" for his age. He is already crawling, stands in crib, sits up. But, I am also concerned, he is not a loveable child, does not make eye contact with me or parents, rarely smiles, screams himself to sleep, refuses any kind of cuddling, drinks a 7 oz. bottle in under 5 min. and spits up something fierce. He sleeps in a play pen and he has almost torn it up, the mattress, he takes the sheet off, and wakes up screaming most of the time. I have been doing childcare for 5 years and have 2 of my own and I have never seen anything like it, could he be hyperactive, or what do you think???

Congestion Relief Remedies for a 5 Month Old?

San Francisco, CA

Hi Everyone. I am new to this website, so I have no idea if this one has already been asked, which I'm sure it probably has. I have a 5 month old who has come down with a terrible cold. She is so congested, poor thing. Sometimes after a feeding, her coughing spells are so bad she ends up throwing up all of her milk. We have been using a humidifier as well as applying Vicks Vapor Rub. Since we can't buy over the counter cold medicine, what other remedies would you suggest for relieving her congestion? Thanks!

Congestion Since Birth

Atlanta, GA

My son is 5 1/2 months old. He has been badly congestion since he was born. He gets choked up and gags a good bit when he drinks his bottle. He is always either with a runny nose or stopped up nose. He is currently sleeping in a swing to keep him elevated at night. He is on Soy Milk. Also, he has had a cough for a good while now. We have been to an Allergist, and they have him on a Saline Rinse, Decongestant drops, Nasonex, Arithamycin, and Robitussin. I had him at 39 weeks with a scheduled C-section. And he was in the NICU for the first day with fluid in his lungs. Has any one else experienced any of the problems with their baby, and if so, any suggestions or ideas to what it could be? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Constant Need to Be Carried

Portland, OR

I am wondering if other moms have had this issue and maybe even if it is normal for a breastfed baby... I have a six week old baby who seems to need to be carried constantly. I have never had this problem with my other boys, but think maybe it is because I am breastfeeding this baby so he feels more of a need for physical comfort!? We don't have a problem at night as he usually wakes up, nurses, and then falls right back to sleep. Of course we do pretty much co-sleep at this point, I try as much as possible to put him in his bassinet after he has fallen asleep. But more often then not he winds up sleeping in bed with us. The big problem is during the day, it seems if he is not nursing then he needs to be held/carried. We bought a swing, and it only works if I nurse him to sleep and then gently place him in the swing asleep, or if he is in an exceptionally good mood. Even if he is in a good mood, he won't stay in the swing for very long before crying to be held. My hubby and I are stressed and seem to find more and more things piling up around the house because we can't put down the baby long enough to get things done. We have started talking about just letting him cry it out in his crib or swing. But I would really rather not do that as he is still so young. Of course we have also talked about just buying a sling and carrying him around all day, but we can't see this as working out to well when there are other kids in the house to take care of and some chores that aren't going to work to well with a baby strapped to our chests. Any suggestions...

Contractions 5 Minutes Apart

Philadelphia, PA

Hello everyone! My step sister lives in Oakland, Ca and is due any day now with her first baby. She has been having contractions every five minutes since yesterday morning, about 4am our time. At 7am she went into the hospital because she thought her water broke, but the sent her home because they said that her water had not broken and she was only 1 cm dilated. She went back to the hospital last night when the contractions became only 2 minutes apart. Since she was only 3 cm dilated, they sent her home again. They have been giving her morphine for the pain, but it's not really helping her. She does not drive and is alone in all of this. It does not sound right to me that they would send her home with contractions that close and 3 cm along. I went from 1 cm to fully dilated in like 15 minutes with my son. Anything could happen at anytime right? I guess I'm just a little worried since she's by herself out there. Anyone experience this? Please reassure me that this won't put stress on her or the baby! Thanks for all of your help!

Cooing

Dallas, TX

My 4 month old daughter used to coo all the time and make other noises and sounds with her mouth. She still makes the noises, but not so much the actuall 'acoo, coo, la, and other sounds'. I was wondering if anyone else had this similar thing go on? Maybe they move past that -- she's learned to make this high pitched squel and some other noises so it seems like that's all she does recently. I was getting concerned because it's not really "talking" anymore and instead just random squels. She's happy when she makes them almost like she just enjoys it. Is this what 4 month olds do?

Coping with the Return to Work

Youngstown, OH

I will be going back full time and I will have some shifts that are 8 to 4 some that are 2 to 10. I am already a basketcase. I cannot leave this little boy, he is just too adorable! I already have him into a great routine, and I am so nervous about having it disrupted, but I guess some change is good?? My husband also works full time and we will not be doing daycare...I am very grateful for that. Both of our families will be watching him at our home and sometimes theirs. I would really like to know how all of you moms who returned to work managed. I have been with my son almost every single day and night since he was born. I am just afraid he will miss me too much, or worse he won't. I don't know how to deal. Please...I'll take any advice to calm my nerves.

Correcting Grandmother's Verbage

San Diego, CA

My Mother-in-law has an odd way of speaking to our daughter sometimes. When she picks her up to carry her around and our daughter starts crying or fussing, Grandma will say "No, no, no" or "Stop that" over and over. I am trying hard to limit my use of 'no' and I have never said 'stop that' because I don't like it. She doesn't use a harsh tone, it's more of a sarcastic, mocking tone. Could 4 Month Old Twins Be Teething?

Could It Be Colic?

Detroit, MI

My daughter would always get fussy between the hours of 6p and 8 pm...but lately she seems to just cry and cry around that time for no good reason. We have tried feeding her, rocking her, etc...but the only thing that seems to calm her down is to stand by the sink and letting the water run. It stops her crying every time. Of course it's hard to do that because I really don't like wasting the water and my 17 month old son is usually getting dinner and a bath at that time. I have read up on colic and I am wondering if perhaps that is what she has, but what I have read indicates that it should get better by 3 months of age and that the crying lasts 3 hours....but she just turned 3 months and it seems to intensified and she only cries for about an hour or so. Does anyone have any experience with this type of issue? Should I get a white noise machine to simulate the water sound

Could My 3 1/2 Month Old Be Teething? Frustrated by Toys.

San Francisco, CA

Hi - My son is 3 1/2 months old. I think he may be teething, but I can't tell for sure. He starts crying soon after I give him any kind of toy, and it seems to be because he can't get them far enough into his mouth. He grabs the toys above him on the play mat, but can't get them into his mouth, and so he starts fussing. I then take them down so he can put them in his mouth, but he then gets frustrated by that as well and sticks his fist in his mouth instead and/or starts crying. The O-ball toy (and anything similar) makes him cry, I think because he can't get them far enough in to his mouth. Does this mean he could be teething? He even stops nursing sometimes to put his fist in his mouth. I don't see any swelling of his gums or anything, though. He's been a bit more fussy lately, but it could be related to other things (we just got back from vacation). He's been sleeping well. If he is teething, any suggestions for toys that he can easily chew on? I feel bad taking his toys away, but they just seem to make him upset. At this point he pretty much can't entertain himself like he used to because all his toys make him cry!

Cradle Cap

Kansas City, KS

Hello again! Seems I am on this alot lately - having a newborn is hard work!! (I think you all know that though.) I think my baby has an extreme case of Cradle Cap, it has moved to her ears, neck, face and shoulders... has anyone ever experienced this? I have been washing her hair with mild soap, and brushing the scalp with a toothbrush to loosen the flakes. Last week I thought she had eczema, but turns out that is not the case... the stuff she has on her ears and neck has got puss coming out of it. I have a call in to the doctor, since he told me last week when we thought it was dry skin to just put the Auqaphor on it... but since then it has spread to her neck and shoulders... I am washing her face, neck area every few hours with a mild soap and then drying it off. Just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this with their baby. It looks terrible and doesn't seem to be getting any better. I just want to get her healed. :(

Cradle Scalp

San Francisco, CA

Hi moms! My son's exactly a month old now and I think he has cradle scalp. He has some kind of yellowish crust on his scalp and rash on his face and ears. he was born a day late and it is normal for an infant to have cradle scalp when he/she is born a little late. My son's pediatrician said to put baby oil on his scalp and 1/2% Cortaid (hydrocortisone) ointment for his rash. He likes putting his hands in his mouth. What happens if he touches his face and put his hands in his mouth? Is this safe? Are there any options to apply on his rash besides cortaid? Any safe home remedies, say corn starch or something? Thanks!

Dealing with a Colicky Baby

San Diego, CA

My 5 week old son has colic. I suspected something was wrong when he would cry for no apparent reason for hours. At first I thought he developed an ear infection, so I took him to see his pedi, and she ruled out all signs, telling me that his crying was causing him to swallow air, and it was making him gassy. About a week later emotionally, I couldnt take it anymore, so i checked him into the emergency room. The doctor asked me a series of questions, then examined my son, later telling me that he has colic and that it will probably take a few months to ware off. Are there any mothers dealing with a colicky baby? I need advice on how to cope with it!

Dealing with Croup

Dallas, TX

My son is almost 5 months old. I took him to the doctor yesterday after having a terrible weekend of coughing. She told me he has croup and prescribed Prednisolone(steroid). when is it too early to give a steroid? She didn't give a cough medicine either. Last night was so horrible with him just coughing and crying in between. I feel so bad, and don't know what to do. Should I ask the pediatrician to give a cough medicine as well? How do you take care of this condition quickly and effective? I'm currently having the humidifier on 24/7 and offering pedialyte here and there. How do babies even get croup? I asked the pediatrician and she said it wasn't our pets, but it can be from anywhere and anyone. Just being out and about. I know i'm a first time mom and this is me being a worry wart.

All I ever seem to hear from people is that I need not worry and that he will do it when he's ready. Well, my son is now 7 months and still hasn't rolled over either way, and can't sit up. If you try to prop him up with pillows or put him in the highchair or bebe pod he just gets upset and wiggles and arches his back. He gets plenty of tummy time and time on the floor. I work with him a lot but I don't over do it. I was just wondering when everyone elses children did these things, and if you think it is an area of concern, A friends child is 20 days older than him and is rolling over, sitting up, and crawling.

Developmental Questions for 6 Month Old

Dallas, TX

My daughter will be 6 months on the 28th, and I am concerned about her developmental progress. She can rollover from back to tummy but cannot roll from her tummy to her back. She hates tummy time and cries after only a minute or so on her tummy. When she is on her tummy, she doesn't ever really try to move like most babies do. She does not sit up on her own yet either(I read that they should be able to do this at 6 months). She is my second child, so I am not uptight about this at all. She is a VERY content baby and just doesn't seem to find the need to move around. I guess I am wondering more than anything if this is something that I should be concerned about or not. I'm sure that she will eventually do these things when she feels the need, but I don't want her to be way behind either. She does tummy time at daycare every day, and at home each evening. She also sits in the bumbo seat a lot at school and at home. Is there anything else that we should be doing to encourage her?

Diarrhea Only at Daycare??

Philadelphia, NJ

I know this sounds odd but my son seems to always get diarrhea when he is at daycare! He is there two days a week and it seems like it never fails that his "notes" say that he had diarrhea that day and I get a plastic bag full of his clothes covered in poop! I am with him four days a week and don't have this problem...he is with his Grandmother one day a week and no diarrhea... I tried to think of something that I may be doing like different foods, etc. but we are pretty routine with everything so I can't think of anything that happens different;y on his daycare days... Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a chance that it is the stress of being away from his family? Or maybe daycare is feeding him something other than what I designate for him? (I hate to think that is the case!) Anyway, I was just hoping for some thoughts because this has me baffled and a little concerned! Thanks!

Did Your Little One Cry During Teething?

Dallas, TX

Hi Moms, My 7 month old son got his first two teeth on the bottom just one week shy of turning four months old. Since then he hasn't developed any more, however, in the last three days he has started putting EVERYTHING in his mouth again....his fingers, toys, spoons, chewing on his bottle and on my shoulder and fingers, so I think he is teething, however, he has been crying in the mornings at daycare and the teacher asked my husband this week if we had called the doctor since he was crying so much in the morning the last three days, which unnerved my husband a little since we first time parents. He is not running a fever and is not fussy at all in the afternoons or evenings so my gut tells me he's just fussy because his teeth are hurting him. We use teething tablets and tylonol and they seem to do the trick, but I just wanted some reassurance. I've already taken him to the doctor once when there wasn't anything wrong with him because the daycare suggested I get him checked out for an ear infection, which he didn't have. I know the daycare just has to be sure and alert the parents of everything, even changes in a child's behavior, but I really think he's just teething. I've rubbed my finger along his gums and while I don't think I feel anything yet, I can't guarantee I know what I am feeling for...do you think its teething?

Driving in the Car with a Screaming 1 Year Old

Dallas, TX

Please help!! Our 1 year old son will "pretend cry" and yell every single time while in the car with my husband and me. My husband's answer is to keep him quiet by constantly feeding him and chasing down the sippy he throws around in the backseat (which I am not a fan of doing). We have tried books, toys, etc...but he throws them on the ground after a minute or two. I have tried sitting back there with him, but it makes it worse. I have even tried just ignoring it, but hubby won't go for that. We can put the DVD on for him, but I refuse to do that for a car ride to the store. He does ok when it is just him & me in the car. Which makes me guilty for even thinking this...but how much can a 1 year old really know about controlling this situation? We just moved to the "country" and it takes at least 20-30 minutes to go anywhere. When we all try to go to dinner together, etc...it turns into a nightmare and stresses us out to the point that it's not even worth going anywhere. I absolutely love my son & adore being his mother...he is typically such an easy-going kid, so I just don't know what we're doing wrong. Does anyone have a suggestion about how to help?

Dry Skin on 2 Month Old? and How to Handle a Breast Fed Baby?

Dallas, TX

Sorry, ladies- two questions. The first is that a friend of mine has a 2 month old, and his skin is scaly. When you touch it, it feels rough. I told her that it just looks like dry skin, but she thinks it may be eczema (I have seen a very bad case of eczema on a different baby, and they don't look similar). I was wondering if it is maybe a mild case of eczema. If it is, what can she use to make his skin smoother? It does seem to irritate him. Going to the doctor isn't an option right now because they do not have insurance. Second question, I was taking care of him for a few hours, and I couldn't console him. He is breastfed, and even though I offered him a bottle, he still seemed to want the breast. Any advise on what to do? TIA

Ear Piercing for My 5 Month Old

Dallas, TX

Hi, I really want to get my 5 month old little girls ears pierced. Her doctor is against piercing ears until they are old enough to ask for it. Does anyone have any advice on whether or not to do it and maybe locations to get it done? What about those places in the mall like Claire's or Icing, are they any good? I really would prefer someone other than some teenage girl making minimum wage piercing her ears. Her dr. office won't do it. Thanks! M.

Establishing Infant "Schedule"

Las Cruces, NM

I am now home full time with my almost 5 mos. old after working full time since he was only 3 weeks, and would like to help him establish a "schedule" of eating, sleeping, playing. I am not looking for a rigid schedule just a basic outline of how to help him know what to expect throughout the day. Right now he wakes up between 7-8 a.m. and is usually tired, ready to nap in 2-2 1/2 hours after his wakeup time. After that it really varies because some mornings he sleeps for 35 min. sometimes 1hr. 45 min. He is not cranky with short naps, but I would like him to sleep a little longer. He also is nursing about every 3 to 3 1/2 hours sometimes 2 1/2, but not often. He usually takes another nap in the afternoon, I can usually make it longer if I sleep with him, which I don't mind most days. Then he gets tired again around 6. That is the nap that kind of throws me. I have tried holding him off for his 6 p.m. nap until 6:30, but then he goes to bed for the night at 6:30 but then wakes up earlier the next day. I know he may need three shorter naps instead of two longer naps, but I need some help on when to try to put him down. Any suggestions on what your 5 month olds are doing would be helpful. Thanks!

Facial Tremor

Oklahoma City, OK

My sweet boy is 5 mos. A couple of days ago I was changing his diaper and noticed he was having what I guess would be a facial tremor. It looked like his bottom jaw muscle was having a spasm. It was only for a couple seconds. It happened about 3 times in about a minute and then stopped. I noticed it happening one time the next day, but nothing before and nothing sense. I'm wondering if this is just a simple muscle spasm or something worse? My first time mom brain is thinking only the worst. HAs anyone's seen something like this before?

Family Dinner at Restaurant - Better Early or Late?

San Francisco, CA

My mother-in-law is turning 60 and there is a big family dinner at a fancy restaurant. They are leaving the timing up to me since we have a 7 month old baby. My choices are as follows: 1) force everyone to eat "early" at 6pm (they typically eat at 8pm) and bring a bottle for the baby, resulting in him being up later then his bedtime (7pm) because by the time we finish eating and drive back it could be 8pm or later - with the worst case scenario being that he gets so tired but is too overstimulated to fall asleep at the restaurant and crys/fusses a lot or 2) do our regular bedtime routine (nurse, book, etc) and instead of putting him in the crib at 7pm, put him in his carseat with a blanket covering it and go eat at 8pm, hoping that he falls asleep on the way in the car and stays asleep while there - with the worst case scenario being that he wakes up right as we arrive Any thoughts/suggestions on this issue? Any one else have experience with this? My son is a fairly light sleeper and is easily distracted when trying to fall asleep (meaning that he fights it if there is something holding his attention).

Fat??

Dallas, TX

When I took my daughter to her 6 month check up, the pediatrician told me that she's a little overweight. I think she's CRAZY - Rhiannon's length was 25 inches and she's 17 pounds. Then she tells me that I need to be feeding her 3 jars of baby food a day. THREE JARS? It's a fight for me to get her to eat one. She's been strictly breast fed and she's gotten to the point where she won't even take a bottle. How do you get a baby to eat baby food when all she wants is to nurse? And if she's really overweight, should she be eating 3 jars a day? Maybe I'm just overstressed because she's my first. Please, I'm open to any advice.

Febrile Seizures

Denver, CO

My son had his 6 month check up two days ago and had the usual immunizations. He did not present with a fever all day but didn't go to sleep like his usual self, at 1:30 in the morning I woke up to him having a seizure, it lasted about 4 minutes. We rushed him to the ER where he did have a temp of 103.5 the conclusion of the work up was that the seizure was caused by the fever. I didn't sleep at all last night worried he'd have another one but this time I wouldn't wake up (he sleeps in his own crib/room). I am seeking other Moms where this may have happened and to thier little one. I am sure I am being paranoid that it won't happen again as long as I am vigilant about checking his temp when I suspect something isn't right, but I can't stop worring about it.

Feeding My 8 Month Old

Bloomington, IL

I've been having problems with my 8 month old not sleeping for the past three weeks. He has been sick and teething both. He only has one bottle a day and eats baby food the rest of the time. He eats every four hours, my Mom said that he should still be getting 3-4 bottles a day. When do you start weaning them from bottles/formula for good? At night he takes a bottle and falls asleep while he's eating, that takes about 30-45 min. then when I go to put him down he wakes up and wants to stay up for another 2 hours. It seems like he's getting a power nap when he's supossed to be going to sleep for the night. Therefore he wants to stay up until 11 or later.......HELP!!!

Feeding/Sleeping Question

Dallas, TX

I have a rather large baby - she's about 17 lbs and 5 months old. She will not sleep through the night. She continues to wake up every 4 hours - I'm assuming to eat, because that's how often she eats and I don't give "snacks". She is exclusively breastfed. I'm wondering about the sleep habits of other big babies. I know she's got plenty of calories in "storage," but does her size make her more hungry. Does anyone know if I should cut it down to once a night? I try to soothe her in other ways before feeding her, but she is relentless until she gets the breast. Also wondering if maybe a bottle of formula before bed would help. We are also thinking about starting solids as it is less calories and takes longer to digest. Any thoughts, answers, or advise is greatly appreciated. Also...I know this will make some mommies cringe, but she is sleeping in her bouncy seat at night. Our goal is baby sleeping in crib waking only once to eat...or not waking at all. Crying it out is hard as our 2 year olds room is next door - I'm also concerned she's a little young for that...maybe in a month. We try the crib first every night...but it never works for long. Our first slept so good, but this little girl fights it every step of the way. Sorry so long!! Thanks!!

My daughter has always liked playing with daddy's "dumbo" ears (yes, they really stick out that far! lol). For the past few months now she's been playing with her own, well, only the left one. I haven't worried about it because she hasn't fun a fever and she's not crying or tugging on her ear continually, just occassionally. This morning she discovered that she can actually put her finger inside the ear and I'm worried that she might damage the eardrum. Is this a normal behavior? Also, is it possible to get her finger in far enough to do damage?

First Time Mom Who Needs Potty Training Advice & Encouragement

Honolulu, HI

I have a beautiful 21 months old daughter with another daughter on the way (5 months pregnant). When my daughter was about 14 months old I started getting her familiar with using a potty. To my surprise she really took to it very well and would point to it when she wanted to use it. As she grew, I switched her over to the regular toilet with a seat for her to use. She didn't really want to use it at the beginning, but slowly got use to it. She would tell me when she wanted to go...and went. But lately, it's like she's reverting away from it and instead hides when she goes. I have books on potty training, but the tips don't last. Everyone tells me that all children act this way and she will get over it. I just don't want her to go backwards in this area. I feel like I'm failing her and I don't know how to help her.

Frequency of Diaper Changes for 4-Week-old

Portland, OR

I have a 4-week-old girl who has on average 10 dirty diapers per day. This is in addition to plain wet diapers. She typically needs 2 changes per feeding-one at the beginning and one at the end. She drinks primarily nutramigen formula plus 8 ounces of breast milk per day - all my body makes. At 1-week old she had an intolerance to enfamil regular formula and soy formula and was dirtying 20 diapers a day. This decreased to 10 upon switching to hypo-allergenic formula. Her pediatrician was happy once she got down to 10 dirty diapers, but I am reading that babies her age should have between 2 & 5 bowel movements per day. Does anyone have experience with this amount of diapers at this age and if so, when did it decrease? Thanks!

Fussy Time, and Getting 5 Month Old to Sleep in Crib

Albany, NY

I have a few questions... 1. I have an almost 5 month old and we are still dealing with the fussy time at night. Sometimes it can be 4-8, of fussyness, or an hour or two. It depends. We have to hold her and walk her. We have been doing it since we bought her home, so about 150 nights and counting! If we put her down she cries, we have tried everytihg. use of pacifier, playing with her, bouncy seat. Nothing seems to work. Does this end, or is there something wrong? I thought it would go away by like month 3 or 4. I stay at home, so when night comes, I am so dead to walk and walk. My husband and I switch on and off. 2. She sleeps very well in the crib at night, but only will cat nap in the day, in her crib. We put her down for her nap a sleep or a wake and she's up in like 15 minutes. We do the samething that we do at night and it doesn't matter. So we get fustrated and we use the swing. How can I change this? 3. Is anyone else dealing with a little postpartum depression still at 5 months. I did in the beginning for about 2 weeks and thought that was normal, but there are days, that I cry for no reason, or because she has been crying, and with the evenings so tough, I go out of my mind. Ww wanted her and it took a long time to have her, but I feel like this is all so overwelming and I can't do it. Just wanted to know if 5 months is a bit long for this? Thanks
