A Possible "Temper Tantruam" Child in the Making.

Philadelphia, PA

I have a 9 month old little boy, and just recently I've noticed that he has a little temper. If i try to take him away from something he can't touch, for example, he will grunt in anger and arch his whole body backward. I would like to do my best to raise a well behaved child, and I know he is only 9 months, but it is my first so I am not sure if it normal. Any suggestions on how to stop this behavior?

About to Be a Mother of a One Year Old and a Newborn Feeling Overwhelmed

Cleveland, OH

Ok Ladies: I will be induced March 10th if my son is not born before and my daughter will be 1 on Feb 2nd-so you can imagine I am a bit anxious and worried. Madison is becoming more mobile and active every day I am wondering how I will be able to breastfeed my son/care for him with her home while I am on Maternity leave. How has everyone else coped with 2 so close together? Do any of you have some tips for me? My caregiver will let me bring Madison to her house a couple times a week for a much needed break but I just need tips. My Hubby is a good dad but not the most hands on dad-Diapers? What are those? I care for our baby girl single handedly most of the time. He knows he will have to jump in more when Ronan is born. But I find my hubby is just not good at seeing what needs to be done and stepping in without me having to ask. I know I am rambling but look forward to advice from any one out there! Thanks Ladies.

ADHD Or Just Normal Toddler Behavior??? :)

San Diego, CA

I have been wanting to ask this question for a while, so here it goes :) I have a very very active 14 month old. He started walking at 8 1/2 months and was running by 9 1/2. He is what you may call "spirited", "very spirited" :). He sleeps/naps pretty well, but when he is awake he is NON-STOP. I mean he never stops moving, not even to watch a video/dvd, nothing. He will sit in his highchair for a little while for meals, but that is it. He moves from toy to toy in about 15 seconds and has tantrums if he doesn't get to do what he wants, right when he wants to. He loves to go outside and will pull my hand to take me to the door, but if it isn't time to go outside (like I am not even dressed yet), he screams, crys and has a fit. If he can get a foot up, he is climbing on something....He has now seen the "upper" level kitchen cabinets and will cry and cry and cry if you don't pick him up to let him see what is in there. He has his own designated cabinets to "play" in and many great toys- but he always want to be playing with something that he can't. We have been working for months on this- but his determination is really unbelievable. The fact that he NEVER wants to sit still has me kinda worried....Does this sound normal for an active toddler, or should I be concerned?? thanks mom's!!!

Advice for New Moms

Hi. I was trying to get a little starter book together for a cousin who is due to have her first baby, a boy in Jan. Her baby shower is this Saturday, and what I would like to do is make a small book with some advice and comments about being a Mom/Dad for the first time. Things that a new parent should know..like an instruction manual..I do have some of my own thoughts, although I'd really like to hear some new things to write. Any advice or comments are appreciated. What do you all suggest that I write? Also I was trying to include web site addresses so they have refrences to look up. Of course I will add this one.

I only use Aveeno products and Bert's Bees products. Any other suggestions?

Advice Needed – Logistics of the First Days with a Second Child

Des Moines, IA

Request: For those with more than one child, I wanted to know what your arrangements were for the first days/weeks with your second child? Examples: Did the father stay with you at the hospital or at home? How long did your husband remain off work? What did you do to involve your first child? Did you try to keep the older child’s routines consistent? What did you like about your arrangement? What would you have changed about your arrangement? Etc, etc, etc. My Situation: I live in Des Moines and have family that lives in a suburb (Ankeny about 25 min travel time). My first child will turn one on Feb 2nd, my second child is due June 20th. I work four days a week and my Son attends day care those days. With our first, my husband took 2 full weeks off work and stayed overnight with me at the hospital. We both enjoyed this as it gave us time to bond with the baby and “get our act together” so to speak. I know with this child he will take at least a week, hopefully 2 again.

Advice Needed for Baby Who Is Vomiting.

Eugene, OR

Over the last three days, my 8 month old baby has started vomiting for no good reason. His diet has been normal, nothing out of the ordinary has happened to him. His bahavior is pretty normal and he doesn't have a fever. The only other thing that is out of the ordinary is that he is rejecting solid foods. He only wants to nurse. He has been on solids for a few months now and hasn't had any problems until now. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? He seems perfectly healthy besides the vomiting. I am not sure that he needs to see a doctor yet ... I feel that I should wait and see if it stops. Any advice would be great! Thanks!

Advice on 5 Month Old Sleep Crawler?

San Francisco, CA

Hi Everyone, Our 5 month old daughter, Sasha, has recently mastered the ability to roll from her back to her belly but not how to return to her back. With this new talent, she is quick to roll to her belly when we put her to bed. She's good about turning her head when she sleeps, however in the last few days she cannot seem to stay still in bed. Sasha has been a very good sleeper at night since she was 6 weeks old. On average she will sleep 10 -12 hours a night. (We have been extremely lucky here) I have read from others that children go through stages and it seems as though our daughter has changed her sleep pattern. How should we respond to (what we think are) her late night attempts at crawling? In her frustration, she does a lot of shouting and hollering, especially when she reaches the end of the crib. We have tried just putting her at the bottom of the crib and rolling her back over, but this only gives us about 1/2 hour to an hour of relief before she starts up again. She is still a light napper, even with her new nocturnal activity. She only averages about two 20 minute naps each day. Does anyone have any advice for us?

Advice on Managing a BIG Baby

San Francisco, CA

My healthy happy six month old is growing like a weed and is already in 12-18 month sizes. He has outgrown the height and weight limits on the infant carseat, bouncey seat and swing, bjorn etc. Trouble is he's not sitting up on his own yet and I'm finding it tough to manage him. For instance I can no longer secure him in the bouncey seat in the bathroom while I bathe my older daughter, and I can no longer take him to the grocery store with the infant carrier in the cart, plus he's too long to fit in the infant bathtub for bathing, etc. Any ideas???

Advice on Sudden Crying Outburst

San Diego, CA

My son will be 1 in a couple of weeks and is suddenly crying all the time. Three weeks ago we were in and out of urgent care with an ear infection. Now his ears are perfect and no signs of a cold. For the past 5 days he will cry for no reason. This is such a change in his personality. He has been an easy baby until now. My thoughts were either teething or a growth spurt. I have tried Motrin, teething rings, oral gel, etc. I don't hold him all the time, he has a good appetite, takes 2 naps and sleeps through the night. This just seems weird to me.

Advice on What to Do About a Baby That NEVER Wants to Be Put Down

Boca Raton, FL

I need help! My son is almost 3 months old and I don't know what to do about him. He CRIES alomst ALL DAY. I know there is nothing wrong with him b/c we have him on Zantac for his reflux, A.R. formula for babies that spit up frequently, and mylicon for his gas. I will feed him, burp him, change him and he will fall asleep on me. If I put him down, within a couple seconds he is screaming like someone is hurting him! He won't take his pacifier at that point and will not stop crying unless he is held. I know there is nothing wrong with him b/c if I turn on the vacuum cleaner or even my blow dryer he INSTANTLY stops crying. Yes, we have actually taken to putting the blow dryer on! When he gets in his "mood" he doesn't want to play, doesn't want to sleep, doesn't want to do ANYTHING but CRY!! He doesn't like being put in his carrier either, so it is hard to have the hands to do anything around the house. He does the same thing for his dad. Being that I am home with him all day every day I feel like I am going insane. I am running out of patience. Does anyone have any advice?

Advice Regarding Hand Sucking vs Pacifier

Los Angeles, CA

I have a 10 weeks old baby girl, which is a doll and with very good habits, I bottlefeed her, she eats 6 ounces every 4 hours, and she sleeps all night, her last bottle is around 10:00 - 11:00 pm, my husband and I feel blessed. But lately she discovered how to comfort herself and she sucks her hand, and fingers until they get red...and she forgets to cry for her bottle....or she fells asleep on her own. My question is: Is better to give her a pacifier instead letting her suck her hand?...she is eating less than before and I don't know if this is normal because of her succking habit. Please advise me.

Advice Regarding Pacifier and Toddlers

Miami, FL

Hi moms, My son is 20 months old & uses a pacifier at night and at naptime. The pacifier lives in his crib and never comes out, as has been the case since he was a newborn. He doesn't use it to self soothe when sad, or angry. He doesn't walk around the house or the mall or anything of the sort. My husband doesn't want him to have one anymore, saying that he is too old, and I think it is ok for him to have as a soothing thing as he goes to sleep. My husbands' other three kids did not have one, although the 6 yr. old still sucks his thumb. I would just like to hear what other moms & dads have done. Intellectually I know it will be harder as he gets older. But I still don't want to take away something that is important to him & brings him comfort. Advice??? Thank you!

Almost 4 Month Old FREAKING Out!

St. Louis, MO

My almost 4 month old daughter has been, for the past 3 weeks, melting down every evening anytime from 4-8 o'clock (give or take an hour) and lasts anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. It's not hours of screaming, but saying that she's fussy is quite an understatement (she seems hysterical sometimes). She naps & is fed often (breastfed) but for some reason it happens every evening & we are baffled as to why. She did not do this until 3 weeks ago & unfortunately, everything I've read says this is normal "witching hour" behavior that ends when an infant is 3 to 4 months old. However, this just started happening when she was 3 months old. Will it stop? What can we do beyond walking her around the house, patting her back? Is this normal? Will I ever be able to have a conversation with my husband without shouting over a crying baby?

Almost 4 Months Old Baby - tremor/shivering...is It Normal???

San Francisco, CA

Hi Moms... In the past few weeks I've noticed my baby having some sort of tremor..like he is shivering or so...Only happens at feeding time ( bottle feed) and is for few seconds...and it stops. It doesn't bother him at all...I made sure he was warm enough and the milk also not cold... I'm very concerned... I didn't mention to his pediatrician yet cause few weeks ago he told me that some baby tremors ( like the mouth ) is due to baby growth and I should not worry about it. I would like to ask if any of you had the same experience and if it turned out to be OK or should I be concerned? As a first time mom...everything is new...I try to research as much as I can...but sharing it with you all seems to be more effective. Please give me some light!

Almost-8-month-old Still Cries in the Car at Night

Fresno, CA

Our daughter never really liked the car, or her car seat, but she's gotten ok with it during the day. She now only gets unhappy in the evenings or at night when it's dark. She'll start to cry as soon as she sees the car, and continue until we reach our destination and she's out of the car. We've tried using a book-light on her car seat, and that doesn't help. we've also tried with my husband reaching back and holding her hand or letting her suck on his thumb... My husband is unable to drive because of a vision issue, I'm the sole driver, so I am unable to do anything for her. she IS in a larger car-seat now, and not the small one she first had. We're wondering why she does this, and if anyone has had similar experiences, and if there is anything we can do to help her get over it.

Am I Wrong???

New York, NY

My daughter is 8 months and she is my first and I* dont mind her visiting family or family visiting her but I find that I do not want her staying out unless I am with her until she is old enough to tell me if she is being mistreated. I am not at all saying wait until she is 10 but I am maybe thinking more like 4 or 5 years of age. I personally dont feel no one is going to watch my daughter like I am and there for am very protective over her. When I was young I didnt probably start staying at anyones house alone with out my mom unti I was past the age of 6 sometime in elementary school. Are there other parents that feel the same and if so how do you let others know without people feelings getting hurt or should you even care if you are trying to do what you feel is best, and thats your decision. Because she is only nursing now and I find that people are often like oh she is gonna spend the night when she is not nursing and all these other plans for her. I am a stay at home mom and loving it.

Any Mothers with Infant Who Stopped Breathing or Had ALTE

New York, NY

We went to the pediatrican and ER and they told us he had experienced ALTE (apparrent life threatening event). Im still upset by it. They said that in 50% of the casees they dont know why it happens it just does... In the other 50% there is an underlying reason... enlarged heart, neurological problems etc. All his tests came back normal which is great but I'm scared it might happen again. Are there any moms out there that experienced this? Can you tell me what happened with your baby and if it reoccured. Or what you did differently?

My little boy developed a hatred for getting his fingernails and toenails cut at around 8 months or so (I have no idea why, I've never cut into the quick or anything). Baby Acne

Bloomington, IN

My baby was born in mid-March and appears to have acne. The rash isn't nearly as hideous as my 5 year old's was when she was a baby, but it comes and goes very quickly. At first I thought it was heat rash because heat makes it worse, but the other day her back was soaked with sweat and the rash wasn't bad or on her back. Then I thought it might be an allergy to the milk-based formula I'm giving her because it's along the jaw line, but it doesn't come out right after the feeding after she drools down her chin. My mom suggested it's the detergent, but I use Dreft and although it's on the upper part of her chest and shoulders, too, it's no where else. Does anyone know what this is? I don't wash my clothes in Dreft - maybe I should try. Or should I switch formulas?

Baby Crying Saga Continues.....

Hello everyone! You all have been wonderful answering my questions about my newborns excessive crying, reflux and swallow test. I had the swallow test done. The great news is nothing is genetically wrong. There are no holes or blockages or anything like that! She only has mild to moderate reflux (we thought that was the problem before) and severe gas. I saw the xray and her entire lower half was full of gas bubbles! No wonder all the crying she is having gas pain! So my ped said that we just have to wait it out. That it would get better in time! Baby Girl Cries a Lot When Wet

Chicago, IL

My 2 week old baby girl always cries either right after she's peed, or as she's peeing (it's hard to tell b/t the two). 75% of the time when she starts crying & we feel her diaper, it is warm. I'm not sure if she just doesn't like being wet, or if it's painful for her to pee (maybe like a burning feeling, or maybe she's irritated down there). Dr. says it's probably just coincidence, but there definitely seems to be a correlation. Does anyone have any experience w/ this? She had her 2 week check-up Fri. and was fine "down there." I didn't bring this issue up w/ the dr. b/c I just realized the correlation the day after my appt. Is this just how girls are...they hate being wet? I have a son so this whole girl thing is new to me. If she's sleeping when she pees she doesn't cry or wake up...it's just when she's awake. Lately it's become almost like a hysterical type cry...I just don't know if she's really in pain or doesn't like being wet. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Baby Grabbing

Hartford, CT

It has worked very well over the last few months, since I returned to work. The problem is, now she is getting more "adventurous" and has been reaching for things. She keeps grabbing the shower curtain and putting it in her mouth! YUCK!!! I keep taking it away from her, but she just goes and grabs it again. I've tried telling the "No-No" "Caca" etc, but she's only 7 months, she doesn't understand. Does anyone know of a way to teach her not to touch it? I really don't think she can understand yet.

Baby Hasnt Had a Bowel Movement in a Week

Columbia, MO

Hi, I have a 2 1/2 month old who is exclusively breastfed. He used to poop a lot as all new borns do... but as he has gotten a little older he has begun to go about once every 2 days or so. Well... now it has been about 6 days and I am still waiting for the blow out. He seems fine... as far as I can tell (still smiles and coo's, maybe gets a little grumpy around nap time but is normal for him). He has lots of wet diapers still, he passes gas, his stomach is not abnormal (protruding) that I can see either. I have conflicting pediatric advice. One says it has been way too long since BM and we should insert half a supository and if no poop still - take him to Dr immediately. Other Dr says this is normal - some infants go as little as once a week and they are fine. So what do the other breastfeding mothers out there have to say? Thank you so much!

Baby Hates Being on Her Stomach

Provo, UT

I have an almost 7 month old daughter who still hates being on her belly. I have been putting her on her belly for "tummy time" since she was a newborn and she has always disliked it but I thought she would outgrow it by now. I put her on her belly several times a day and she usually whines and rolls right over after a few seconds. I am not able to get her to stay on her belly for very long. The reason I am slightly concerned about this is because I know that "tummy time" helps promote crawling. She loves sitting up and standing up when someone is holding her hands. She does not particularly like lieing down on her back for very long either unless she is sleeping. I know that all children develop at their own pace and I am not trying to push her to crawl. I only want to provide opportunities for her to learn how to crawl. Is there any ideas on how to get her to stay on her belly more? Or does it matter?

Baby Hates to Ride in the Car.

Spokane, WA

I have a 7 week old boy that hates to ride in the car. All he does is cry and scream. I have tried everything, putting him in right after he eats, so that maybe he will sleep, after nap time, before he needs to be feed. I almost always have someone else in the car with me to talk with him, give him a bottle or binky, but nothing seems to be working. None of my other kids cried that much in the car, they would always fall asleep. Any ideas? Update...I didn't think about my little guy being car sick, my daughter now 13 gets car sick, me too at times if I am not driving. I have tried toys, and it's my 13 year old that rides back there with him, when we are out and about. I do have a cover about the carseat to keep him warm, but now that the weather is better, I don't zip it up anymore. I will try to put him in the car seat while in the house to help him. I don't like to turn the raido on, because they I can't hear if he is crying or not. He has passed out once because he is crying so hard. Have to talk to the doctor about that, this week when we go in. I can't put him up front with me because of the way the seatbelt and there is a airbag, and it can't be turned off. I will test out his straps, and it's a new car seat, seeing that about my now 2 year old was born we were done having kids we gave evertything away we had to get all new stuff with this one. So will give the ideas a try, thank you all

Baby on Zantac

Harrisburg, PA

My 4 month old has been prescribed Zantac for screaming episodes that the doctor thinks may be reflux. Her dosage seems rather small; .3 ml three times a day. She has been taking this for 3 days and for the past two has seemed very tired and restless, not her happy self. Does anyone have any idea what would be causing this? I have decided to stop giving it to her until I can find some more info out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I hate to see her in pain but not sure this is the answer. Thank you!

Baby Physically Can't Seem to Poop

Minneapolis, MN

My 5 month old son is exclusively breastfed. I know that breastfed babies can go for a week without pooping, but my child is very uncomfortable and gassy by the third day without a bm. It starts to affect his daytime and nighttime sleep. Last night was horrendous. I mistook the problem (stupidly) last night for teething, but today I put the pieces of the puzzle together and finally I gave in and used the old thermometer trick to get him to poop. It did work as it always does. It seems like every four days I'm having to "take his temperature" in the middle of the night for him to have a bm and us to get some sleep. I'm wary of over using this strategy, but I don't know what to do. Sometimes he poops a tiny bit out himself, but never the entire amount of what is in his body. It isn't constipation because the poop is runny. He does not take a bottle so trying to get alternative liquids in him (prune juice, whatever) has to be done by medicine dropper which is tedious and most runs out of his mouth anyway. Has anyone else been through something like this? This does not seem normal.

Baby Rash

Philadelphia, PA

My son is almost 6 weeks old and for the past week and a half he has been getting this bothersome looking rash on his body. First it started on his face, then neck and ears and now on shoulders and upper chest. It looks worse on his face and neck. It's hard to tell if it's getting better or not. On his neck, the rash is getting dry and crusty and a bit weepy behind his ears. Everywhere else it's red, bumpy and on his face, feels rough like sandpaper. I'm breastfeeding and eat a pretty bland diet, so I don't know if anything is causing it. I wash his laundry in Dreft, my cousin suggested switching to Ivory Snow. But if detergent was the cause, why would it primarily be on areas not covered by clothing? I'm thinking of calling the doctor, but I don't want to drag him all the way to the Dr. office just so he can look at him and say it's nothing (thank you, pay at the door...). Anyone else had this experience?

Baby with Horrible Rash Under Chin Part 2

Atlanta, GA

First of all, thank you all for your advice. I hope that you can continue to help me. I will still be using some of your tips but now I have a new problem. My son's rash has been continuing to get worse every day. This morning he woke up with the rash all over his face. So, of course I took him to the pediatrician. I saw a different doc this time and he told me that my son did NOT have yeast after all!! aaagggg! There is no rash deep in the crevasses of his rolls, the rash is only on the areas of his skin that are exposed to having contact with things like clothes. He said to quit doing everything that I was doing and start all over. He said that it could be one of two things - 1) a reaction to something that he has come in contact with (which is the more probable answer) or 2) excema. So I got a prescription for a steroid cream. Which I am not fond of BUT he is absolutely miserable and needs relief right away, so as soon as this is over I won't rely on it anymore, unless necessary. I bought some Dreft (I was using All clear/free) detergent and I am rewashing EVERYTHING in it, including my shirts. My daughter had excema and it didn't look like this, but her's wasn't so bad. So my question is this - What triggers an excema outbreak? What should I avoid? What else do you think I should avoid contact with on his skin, in case this is just a reaction. I am watching his detergent, soap (using Aveno), my detergent, no perfume, and no new foods. I am keeping him as dry as possible, using the cream, moisturizing his skin and keeping him cool. Thank you for you help.

Baby with Reflux Learning to Sit Up

New York, NJ

My 5 month old has reflux. Lately he's been trying to learn how to sit on his own a little better, but he doesn't like to lean forward at all in order to be able to support himself with his hands. Sometimes he even cries if he leans forward. I'm wondering if this could be related to his reflux, because he seems so uncomfortable in that position. Whenever I try to get him to sit, he always pushes himself backwards again. (He likes to be propped up on the couch, though.) Is this something all 5 month olds do, or does it sound like he's being bothered by his relux possibly?

Bathtub Cleanser That Won't Harm Toddler's Skin?

Pittsburgh, PA

We have recently moved our dd from the kichen sink to the "big" tub. I initally gave it a good old-fashioned scrubbing then used my water-pressure-steamer thingy to remove the chemicals. This process took over a half an hour. It occured to me the other night that my husband has athlete's foot, and that my dd has been sitting where he stands in the tub. Ugh...yucky...I'm worried about getting all of the germs and bacteria off the tub floor, but do not want to use chemicals that will leave a harmful residue. It's almost like human petrie dish vs. harmful burning chemicals...see my dilema? Does anyone have a good product or process that will get rid of the germs but not take a layer off my poor dd's skin? Thanks!

Boink to the Head/softspots??

Youngstown, OH

Hi moms! I have asked many questions here and have always got great advice. My 6 month old is learning how to crawl and is all over the place! This morning she lost her balance while crawling and hit her head h*** o* the leg of the coffee table. It was a very loud boink and she screamed! There is now a very visible swollen spot on the side of her head. I called her doctor and they said she should be fine, just don't let her sleep for an hour and watch her pupils etc. She does appear to be fine, but I am so worried. I am a fidgety first time mom who is probibly over-protective. At 6 months old, are her soft spots on the top of her head? Are they almost closed yet? I am terrified that she hit her soft spot, and if so could her brain be damaged? I know I am probibly being paranoid, as falls and spills are bound to happen. I guess I am asking where are the soft spots on the head, and how do you know what is an ok fall and what is a trip-to-the-emergency-room fall? Blows to the head freak me out! Thanks mamas!

Breasfeeding All Night Long

Chicago, IL

I work from 12pm to 8pm Mon-Fri. My dd takes marathon naps with dh lasting 3-4 hours. She eats very little with him. Around 1.5 to 3 ozs the entire time. She is asleep for the night by the time I get home, but around 11:30pm the eating begins. 3x a night and she has a good feed each time. She has already started with the "only mom can hold me and I only want her too" attachment with me. I am guessing she just wants to hang out with me and knows when I will be home, so she's savin' all her lovin' for that time. Has anyone else experienced this? I will no longer be working at the end of this month (YAY!) and will be a SAHM and part-time student. Will this work itself out once she realizes I'm here to stay or will I/we need to take some type of corrective action?

Breastfeeding

Phoenix, AZ

Hello mamas, Just another question regarding breastfeeding. I am going to go to a breastfeeding support group this wednesday, they also have professional help there so I am looking forward to it. After feeding my two and half week old son (sometimes sessions will last about 40mins, he is always falling asleep) I will burp him and he will still act like he wants to eat. I am having a hard time determining if he is really still hungry or just fussy. If he is still hungry, would he give me signs like rooting and putting his fingers in mouth, or would he do these things even if he wasn't hungry? He is so confusing, I just don't want to overfeed him. Will he take the breast even if he is full? I am just afraid I am misreading his cues and overfeeding him, causing this domino effect. Thanks ladies.

Bumps on Scrotum Sac

Kansas City, KS

I noticed last week that my son had what looks like little pimples on and under his scrotum sac and in between his legs. I thought is was some sort of heat rash, but have noticed now that a few have gotten bigger. Thier the size of a pencil eraser and smaller. There is no smell, no leakage, and he has no fever. He isn't fussy, not really wanting to eat and is sleeping. He's acting normal. I called the Children's Mercy Nurseline and they said to soak him in a warm baking soda bath and keep an antibacterial and his diaper rash cream on him. And if it gets worse or he starts acting out, then to bring him in for it might be some sort of infection. What is this? Should I be really worried or just keep calm as it might just be a rash?

Burn Out

New York, NJ

I was wondering if there are any new mom support groups in my area or if anyone has suggestions on how to locate one? Toms River, NJ I have definitely reached the burn out level. This is my first child and at times I think my last! My son is having adjustment issues and to be honest so am I. He is colic and yes I use it all (gripe water, gas meds), lets put it this way I have a blender in my living room and a hand mixer in my bedroom (the vaccum is dead). I thought I was prepared I had did my research, read every book that exists and everything was in order for his arrival. Well, I have discovered apparently I didnt do enough preparation. My issues to make it brief is: I am having difficulty in the fact that I don't have a minute to myself. If I can have a chance to get out of my pj's its a plus, if I could just have time to eat a crumb off the floor for breakfast or lunch (doesnt matter can I eat ever), if I could just have a day where I didnt think I was going to lose my mind I would be grateful. Before my son I was extremely involved in my career and I hope to return to it if I had the chance to get back into the field. I have no support my family lives in another state and my hubby works 6 days a week. When he gets home my son is sleeping after he spent the day driving me crazy. My hubby helps with feedings but during that time all you have to do is change a diaper, feed, burp and then he is sleeping. My shift is a whole other ball game I am lucky if I can clean bottles. I am just sooo tired and really overwhelmed. At times I just want to runaway! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Butt Crack Pimples?

In the last week I have noticed the area around his anus was a little red, but I have been airing out his little butt and applying diaper rash ointment. Now, I have noticed that he has little white bumps on it. The rash seems contined to the "crack" and a red line (no bumps) up to his scrotum. They don't seem to hurt him at all and I breast feed him so if this is daiper rash it is the first time I have run into this. Can anyone help me??

Carseat Placement

Appleton, WI

My husband and I are having this slight disagreement :)...and I'm hoping some of you can offer your opinion on this.. We have two boys, ages 3 1/2 and just turned 2. I am due with our third boy in 8 more weeks. I drive a Pontiac Bonneville...it's a full sized car...and I do not wish to drive a mini-van quite yet. Eventually we will get one, but I don't feel like jumping into a purchase when I have so much going on right now. Anyway--my problem is this: all three carseats fit easily in the backseat. My two year old and three year old are currently on opposite sides of the seat, with the middle empty...mainly so they cannot reach each other. I want to put the new baby in the middle just to give him the extra safety, but it DOES make it more difficult on me to get him in and out of the car. My husband thinks I should put the baby on the end with either the two or three year old in the middle, mainly because it is easier to get him in and out. I don't really know how I should order them, or if it really matters. I dont' have back seat side airbags, and my husband said that if another car were to hit me broadside in the back, the end result would be the same for ANY child that was sitting there. I'm not trying to play favorites with my children...I want them ALL to be safe..and I don't know if the order I place them in makes much of a difference anyway. Any thoughts??

Changed Behavoir in 4 Month Old

Pittsburgh, PA

My 4 month old daughter has been in the hospital 6 days after birth for a high fever (nothing came of it, just a virus), then she was diagnosed with reflux (now on zantac), then pediatrician changed formula to alimentum cause she was having digestion issues. That all happened in her first month of life. For the past three months she has been wonderful, sleeping through the night for a little over a month now, smiling and giggling, no problems. Here’s my concern, I think she is teething, and has been for a few weeks, but she has never been so drastically upset. For the past two days she has been screaming most of the time, refusing to eat large portions of formula (only drinking 1-2 oz at a time), and not sleeping well. I had to be up rocking and holding her for her to even get any sleep. I have only gotten a few naps here and there. I’m going crazy. I’ve given her tylenol it seems to help temporarily, but only for about an hour. Is this normal teething behavior, or is something else wrong. She is not visibly ill, and no temperature. I would appreciate any advice as what to do. (Oh and she hasn’t had any vaccines, so it can’t be a vaccine reaction.) She has a doctor appt in a few weeks, and I’m wondering if I should call and see if I can get in sooner. Thanks M.
