Monica Richards of EcoBaby knows a thing or two about incorporating smart, eco-friendly practices into everyday living. From fun DIY projects to valuable environmental tips for the whole family, her blog is the ideal destination for all things eco-chic. We caught up with Richards to learn more about what keeps her inspired and what she hopes to share with others.

What made you want to start your own blog?

I grew up on a Michigan farm where everything was organic – from what we ate to the air we breathed. Seeing how the world has since changed with allergies, disorders and cancers on the rise, well…it can really make you mad. I’ve chosen to be inspired and use my interior design  and eco expertise to help parents keep their families healthy in the only environment they can control – their homes! I want to make a difference. I want to give our kids a fighting chance to grow up strong and make a difference of their own.

What 3 words would you use to describe your blog?

Informational, everyday and eco-chic.

What is your favorite blog post to date?

Best Eco-Friendly Children’s Books – it was one of the first blogs I wrote, and it’s not something you generally think about when shopping for books, which can really shape a kid’s life.

What’s your go-to tip for balancing it all?

I’m not a parent quite yet, but I’m a wife. I have a full-time hosting career outside of blogging, and I’m everyone’s mom. So, my tip for balancing blogging with LIFE is to choose a niche you’re really passionate about and that you know can help at least one other person. That way, you WANT to sit down and talk about stuff, even after you’ve had a full day and put out a million fires.

What’s a typical day like for you?

My days really vary because of the work I do. But no matter if I’m on set all day or schlepping around the city for auditions, I always fit in a workout, eat a meal with my hubby and read up on everything I can to stay on the cusp of the eco world. Every day, I make sure to check one task off my to-do list (that way it doesn’t implode). And every once in awhile, I sneak in an episode of “Fixer Upper.”

What’s the best insight you can offer other bloggers?

It’s ALL about your audience.
