My and my children's experience with Rachel Narula was a very unpleasant one.

First of all, let me say she is not kid-friendly. My children found her to be cold and felt intimidated by her. She would reprimand my young Kindergartner when the child did not get the instruction right away. She ordered notespellar, technic, and theory books in addition to lesson, solo, and recital books my child already had. Mind you, the child is only SIX years old and was given SIX different books!!! I was very surprised and overwhelmed myself, but I did not want to argue with a teacher we were just starting out with. Then realized my child was getting HW on content Rachel had not even covered in class!! My older one also reported that Rachel would skip over portions of music pieces if she struggled rather than explaining or patiently reviewing or teaching. I can go on and on....

Secondly, I would grade Rachel LOW on sincerity. She collects $50 per child in advance for music books and supplies. The contract does not state the money is non-refundable. So, when we discontinued (had given her one month notice prior, per contract) and later (1 month delay due to holidays.... I did not feel comfortable asking for money back just prior to holidays out of consideration) when I asked to be reimbursed, she said she assumed I was not going to be returning since she did not hear from me, and therefore had shred all records. She said she could not be of any further help because she could not recall what books were purchased and what amount of money was remaining. I was SHOCKED! In two months, the children could not have spend $100 in music supplies. Before closing out accounts, one goes over the money balance and refund the excess (I am sure I would have gotten repeated email and reminders if I owed money). But she conveniently chose to overlook and feigned ignorance when she knew she owed money. She maintained she has not kept record...how can you not maintain financial records when you are running a small business? She refused to refund my approx. $70-75 balance.

I wish when I was looking for piano teachers I could find some reviews of other parents' experiences (I rely on customer and parent reviews on so many other facilities and resources). So, I am adding my review to forewarn other parents to spare their children and themselves the negative experience.

I realize reviews can be mixed and there will be other parents with positive experiences to share. You will have to ultimately decide but you will be better informed.
Thanks for reading! Good Luck!

My son loves her class. Everytime we pass through her house he would talk about the class.
