Monica Wason Case‎ After careful investigation of review of Monica Wason, Consumer Advisor's report finds that the reason the Wasons waited 4 weeks for a paid in full spa was because the policy of Blackthorne is that any spa sold as "refurbished" , must have at least 1/2 paid before work is performed on a spa. The spa was an 8 year old spa that needed several repairs in order for Blackthorne to sign off on it.
Records showed that in the process of the repair work, Blackthorne found other repairs that were not know at the time of purchase. During this repair proccess the Wasons made several calls to Blackthorne demanding their spa or their money back. With over $3000 in new pumps, heater, jets, filters, and plumbing on a 8 year old spa that they sold to the Wasons for only $3000, that wasn't an option.
Even though the Wasons chose to not pay for delivery of the nearly 800 pound spa and and decided to set it up at their home themselves, Blackthorne delivered the spa to their home at no charge because of the repair delay and did not charge them anything for the unseen additional repairs.
As for the $240 dollar service bill that Blackthorne charged them, the contract clearly states that if Blackthorne has to return for any reason after delivery (which was at no charge), then a charge will apply. Had the Wason's electrician followed the wiring diagram provided to them by Blackthorne, the spa would have been properly wired and Blackthorne would not have had to go back and do it right. Blackthorne's charge for doing the job right of $240 seems fair to us here at Consumer Advisor.
As for the spa still leaking. Blackthorne's records reflect that not only does the refurbished 8 year old hot tub come with a warranty, but Blackthorne offered the Wasons an oppertunity to utilize their warranty, but they declined.
Blackthorne Pools & Spas just marked their 34th year anniversay this month and offers the highest quality customer service. This case is no exception. By the way they are still willing to honor their warranty they said. As long as the wasons pay the biil that they owe the company, but the wasons refuse to pay.
