I am making this request again. The responses I received were wonderful and very much appreciated. I was just hoping for more so I am requesting more responses on using zoloft.

I have taken Zoloft and have had no problems w/it what so ever. It's the one I like best.

I hope this helps.

I haven't taken Zoloft, but have taken other antidepressants. I feel strongly that just taking a pill in most cases isn't the answer (of course there are probably exceptions). I was in either group therapy or private sessions at least once every couple of weeks when I was taking the pills. I am not saying you need a full-fledged doctor, but at least a group to which you can go and express your feelings and work through issues. It is amazing how much just being able to talk freely can help. My doctor had explained to me that antidepressants don't make you feel better, they give you the ability to sort out your thoughts and emotions, but you still need "talk therapy" to actually sort through how you feel. I know there are many who disagree with me, especially here on a mothers board because so many have suffered PPD. I do think PPD is an exception because it is by definition temporary and sometimes those mothers just need a boost. If your issues are more permanent, please consider talk therapy.

I was on zoloft for almost a year for PPD. I would think that the dosage would make a big difference. I used 100 milligram and didn't notice any issues WHILE I was taking it. However, now that I have been off it for almost a year, I can see that I had a craving for alcohol, and I didn't sleep well at all. I had a friend who used it as well, but at 25 milligrams, and had no side effects. It is very hard to get off these types of drugs - lots of bad side effects, worse depression, etc. I weaned myself very gently and did fine, but I have read horror stories. Just be sure that if she ever wants to stop taking it that she literally shaves the pill a little at a time.
I personally would not get on it again, BUT you need to do what you think will help your daughter. I have other more natural sources for help. Contact me personally if you would like to know more.

I LOVE IT!!! I call them my happy pills, I have suffered from Premenstrual disphoric disorder (SEVERE PMS) for years as well as anxiety so bad that I would never drive on the highway at all... any way, Also mood swings daily... I started taking 25 mg of zoloft for 7 days then went to 50 for a month and I felt like I needed more to get me in the right place so I am now taking 100mg of zoloft daily and I am doing so well that I have no more mood swings my anxiety is nearly completely gone and I have never felt better. Ihave not noticed any side effects and have been on the for about 3-4 months.

The reason I was taking them was also because my 4 year old son has Aspergers and I was having trouble dealing with all of his issues and tantrums and mood swings and I felt like I needed something to take the edge off and help me with the other issues I listed and I wish I had taken it sooner.

As far as talk therapy stuff goes that does not change the chemicals in your brain that make you depressed or have anxiety issues. so talk therapy works best with antidepressants for that reason. true depression is not something you can "just get over" it is a chemical imbalance in your brain and talking about things wont help that. I am a survivor of a father who commited suicide when I was little and trust me a person in a true depressed state or even anxiety can not get better with therapy alone.

I have tried Prozac and welbutrin and the welbutrin made my mood swings worse (mood swings are caused by your brain chemicals and hormones and talking cant help that either) the prozac made my mouth real dry and I no longer had a sex drive. but I have not had any side effects from zoloft.

Good luck, AJ

I have taken Zoloft and Prozac and never had problems with each and will be on something forever I think. I quit Zoloft once cold turkey and was fine, same with Prozac. I never had a problem with either and now take 50mg of Zoloft everyday (and my husband take 100mg)!
